We found this little haven of peace by chance in Bonsall when we were looking for a 1 night stopover around the Peak District...and what a find it was! :)
Cascades Gardens is exactly as described on the website. The garden is a very well kept landscaped garden, with lots of water features and a view as well, if you climb up the garden path.
We can't comment on the other rooms at the B&B, but the Garden Suite which we stayed in was fantastic! :) It really does look as good in reality as it does on the website.
The Garden Suite is a converted detached double garage / granny annex just outside the main house. Half of it is the bedroom and seating area, and the other half is a luxurious bathroom. There are timber beams and a skylight on the roof to give it a bit of character.
The suite is really private as it is detached from the main house. It has a lovely view of a mini waterfall when you look out of the bedroom doors in the morning, and you have free access to the gardens.
The suite is decorated in art noveau style. The bed is a very comfy king size bed. There are 2 leather chairs, a small table and a TV with a DVD player in the seating area at the end of the bed. There is also a foldaway luggage rack, if you need extra space for luggage. (We found that we had more than enough room for our things without having to use it.) There are extra towels and a hair dryer provided. Complimentary teas / coffees/ hot choc and kit kat in the room were much appreciated after a cold day in the peaks! :) There is even a corkscrew & glasses provided.
The ensuite bathroom is fantastic! There is a large jacuzzi bath and a large shower cubicle. Very modern and ample hot water & water pressure. (Though instructions do say that there may be lack of hot water for a while after using the jacuzzi bath.) Not what you expect to find in the high peaks - but very welcomed after a long day's walk! :) (especially the jacuzzi! :) )
There are 2 pubs in the village (Bonsall) within 15 min walk of the B&B. We went to the Barley Mow pub for dinner and thought the food was decent honest pub grub.
Breakfast was excellent and there was a good selection of cereals, fresh fruit salad, etc as well as a cooked breakfast. We loved the seeded bread available for toast in the morning.
The landlady, Elizabeth, is nice and friendly - and so is Tess, her dog. :) Elizabeth's garden is a labour of love and a delight to walk in and to sit and enjoy after a day's hike.
We would highly recommend Cascades Gardens if you want to get away from it all and have a peaceful relaxing break.
