We were looking for a last minute, dog friendly, B&B in the Peaks at Bank Holiday. We found the Castle Inn. Very friendly and accommodating staff who couldn't do enough for us. Our spaniel was made very welcome. They keep a lovely wooden box full of biscuits for 4 legged visitors. The food is very good with pub grub favourites and a few more exciting dishes too. I did get bones in my "award winning" fish. I was told they "added to the flavour". A whole fish in Boullebaise maybe, but not 5 pin bones in cod!
The Castle is just on the edge of the lovely market town so go one way and you walk into countryside, walk the other and you were in bustling quaint shops. Very few high street chains here - hurray! It was lively at night but not loud and garish, and we got chatting to friendly locals in the bar.
The room was very basic with a creaky bed and rickety chair, and we missed a power shower but the place was very clean, in a fantastic spot just as you came into Bakewell, the staff were brilliant and the wonderful hearty cooked breakfast was served by the most jovial chef we'd ever met.
