“they sold their House”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

I was just on the phone with them, and they told me that they sold their house, and don't have any availability to host any more, what a shame, such a great location.

warm welcome by Linda, nipping clean room, lovely views, perfect location, everything we needed really. Breakfast was great, good choice of fresh fruits, cereals as well as hearty cooked breakfast, in lovely sunny room. Short walk ( aprox 10 mins) into Bakewell or £3 in taxi, good variety of pubs and restaurants nearby. Hosts were very informative of local restaurants, taxis etc, and there was plenty tourist literature in room. As someone who will normally only stay in Premier Inns, due to their exceptionally good cleaning policys,we were dubious about a B&B but were pleasantly surprised. A home from home really. Our only small niggle was going from super kingsize bed at home to a double, but not the hosts fault, have the same problem most other places. Overall 10/10 would definitley recommend. thanks so much for making our weekend away perfect

So long as you know what you are getting you should be quite happy here. However, be aware that as stated very clearly by the host, when we asked if there was any common indoor or outdoor areas to relaxing in, that “This is a Bed & Breakfast not a guest house”.

We stayed in the ‘large’ room, with an en-suite bathroom, at the front of the house (large being a relative term). It was a very clean, tidy and well kept room but one that would benefit from a bit of re-styling and more comfortable seating. The toiletries in the bathroom were of the bulk type.

Breakfast was fresh, plentiful, prompt and hot although the service could have been warmer.

At 85.00 pounds per night (holiday weekend) we just had the feeling we overpaid. A warm welcome, a bit of chat, a welcoming cup of tea or cool drink on arrival could have alleviated that feeling.

Go in confidence so long as you know what to expect.

My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend break. Let me start with the good parts. The house and room are immaculately spotless. The breakfasts had excellent choice, were deliciously well cooked. And the whole B&B was reasonable value for money, but not cheap.

As far as location it is all right - a shortish walk (maybe 20min) walk into Bakewell, but if you weren't fit or happy with that sort of walk you might want to stay somewhere closer, as Bakewell is your nearest option for an evening meal.

However, the owners are (I believe) accountants in their day jobs and it shows. There are quite a lot of rules. I'm sure the owners would argue in their justification that it is their own house and this is reasonable for a B&B.

For example, one day my wife was very tired from a tough week at work, and being on holiday wanted a lie in. However, we were told off by one of the owners as "it is not a hotel, it's a B&B, and she needs to clean before getting her day job done". That's fair enough, but it made us feel like her cleaning was more important than our welcome, and ruined our day a bit. Another example is breakfast - you have tell them the night before what you would like.

So I would say if you are comfortable with rules, and want somewhere spotless, then this would be perfect for you. If you want somewhere relaxed, welcoming and friendly then I wouldn't recommend it.

Booked this B & B at short notice so very grateful to the landlady, as Bakewell was busy this weekend (apparently).

Unusually late check in time (4pm), however we did arrive at 1pm and we were allowed to leave car on the drive. We were told that the B & B was expecting two more cars so we were asked to move our car over about 30 cms to allow room for the others, however only one other car was parked their throughout the stay.

As stated the room was large with an en-suite bathroom and the cleanliness of the establishment was of a very high standard, compliments to the cleaner. Decor was slightly dated and very 'frilly around the edges'. The shower wasn't great and the water pressure needs attending to as we could hardly feel the water; £80 warrants a strong power shower! Pillows were so flat it felt like you were sleeping on the mattress and the duvet itself was paper thin.

It is explained on the telephone and on arrival that you are not allowed to stay out any longer than 11:30pm, after which the door is double locked. Luckily we are not individuals who require late nights, however the freedom to make our own choices would have been nice. It does ask in the welcome pack to remember that 'this is a family home', does this not contradict the whole idea of a B & B?

Although breakfast is only ran from 8:30 - 9am it was fresh, fantastic and extremely prompt! On the flip side, it couldn't help be noticed a lack of atmosphere and warmth from the owners, who almost found it difficult to make conversation. The terrible organ music also raised a few giggles with ourselves and an adjacent table; a few open windows and the morning radio would have got the house up to a better start.

Normally I don't mind handing over money, however I did feel slightly pained at handing over £80. If it was '3 in a Bed' I would have definitely under paid.

As a customer my advice would be to modernise to give the place a bit more life or ensure you advertise to the more mature customer.

Overall, great breakfast, very clean but very overpriced. It served a purpose.

Room Tip: Front bedroom is large with en suite.

We arrived at Dale View and were greeted with a very warm welcome and shown to our room which was spotless and very comfortable. Next morning after a very good nights rest we went down for breakfast which were offered a very extensive menu which we enjoyed and thought was fantastic. Linda and Robert were very helpful and made our visit that extra bit special. We left Dale View feeling that we had 3 great nights accommadation and had been looked after exceptionally well and every little thing seemed to have been catered for.

We would definitly recommed Dale View to our friends and if we came this way again we would certainly like to stay again.
