“Rubbish run down hotel, but excellant food and staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

We booked to stay at the hotel as part of our honeymoon trip. We have previously emailed the hotel regarding our complaints and have heard nothing- this was over a week ago.

We booked a "deluxe" room with a four poster bed and roll top bath!......

Having arrived at the hotel we were met by a lovely receptionist who gave us our room key. We were also greeted with a bottle of fizz which was lovely of which we brought another bottle of later from the bar.

We went upstairs to find a shabby room with a disgusting bathroom, of which to be honest has a long way to go to be described as "deluxe". I went and asked the receptionist if there were any bigger/nicer rooms. She gave me 2 room keys to view the rooms and said I could swap to either at no extra cost.

The receptionist was very friendly and cannot fault her professional approach to our predicament. We chose room 8.

Room 8 is far from a "deluxe" room, but has the potential to be with some work!!! The carpet were disgusting, the bed was dusty and the bathroom again was shabby, old and dirty! There was no luxury bathroom and no roll top bath! However we didnt want to make a fuss, we were tired and the room was a vast improvement to the previous room, of which we would have left straight away if there was no alternative. The hallway was covered in a manky stained carpet and covered in bags of linen and dirty looking pictures everywhere.

We then went for a walk in the grounds.... Which are advertised as well maintained etc- this was not the case at all???

We had booked dinner for 8 and were apprehensive to what the food would be like!
Well we were more than pleasantly surprised! Wow the food was absolutely amazing!!how does a hotel that is so run down serve food like that?the chef is amazing and we asked the waiter to thank him for our meal. The chef also changed one of the meals for us. This meal was one of the best meals we have ever had!The waitress and waiter were brilliant!!polite, efficient and very friendly.

We then returned to our room ready for bed! The bed was uncomfortable, the room was hot and the window does not open! We barely slept due to the heat, lack of comfort and the extreme amount of banging we could hear In the hotel????...... but this could have been another couple I supoose?????? I just cant belive we couldnt open the windows surely this a health and safety breach???

We paid full price for our room, and expected a "luxury" experience or as the hotel website describes "deluxe"!

We were very dissapointed- except for the food, waiting staff and receptionist! I also cannot belive they havent repsonded to my email!! I hate to slate places but that was just the icing on the cake!!!!!!

Room Tip: The food is amazing!!

Drive in - where do you park? Not clear! Reception - where is it? No signs. Searched - found it inside the old building but bit annoyed by now. Dated decor - i know the building's old but this is not in keeping, its just not been done up! Receptionist tapped away on her fingernails whilst i checked in - oh sorry, am i keeping you from something?! Not seen any other staff so cant comment on them. Room decor and furniture old but not vintage old, tatty old. Chipped/marked/frayed etc. Can't watch TV from bed as positioning blocked by tall bedstead end. No water/water glasses - i'll have a cup of tap water in a tea cup then. Cant open windows which is frastrating as it is warm and could do with some fresh air. Not dirty but bit dusty/water marked. Views are pretty from the main house which is a positive but fairly irrelevent as everything else is very average about this place and defintely not worth even the special offer price of £75 a night.

I've taken tour groups to stay at Rudloe Hall twice, mostly recently in autumn 2012. We stayed in the newer wing and found the rooms spacious and well appointed, though the fire doors were a bit of a hassle to open and close constantly when we needed to shuttle between each other's rooms.

But the best thing about Rudloe Hall isn't its rooms or its amenities; it is the incredibly helpful and available staff members who cater to their guests. My group was made to feel especially welcome with an opening night meal in a private dining room, and we were even given a space for a bit of English Country dancing after dinner. Any time an iron was needed or we had difficulty with a key, someone was Johnny-on-the-spot to assist with a friendly attitude. I cannot say enough good things about the management or the crew that staff this beautiful place.

While the hotel is located only 8 miles outside of Bath, guests should be aware that it can take up to an hour to get into the city center when there are big events on (like the Jane Austen Festival). Traffic can be insane, so it's a good idea to plan ahead for trips into Bath proper. But the view at Rudloe Hall is incredible, and there are many lovely walks around the place, so staying in Corsham is lovely, too!

Thanks, Rudloe Hall, for another warm welcome and all the delicious food and fabulous service!

Room Tip: If you want complete quiet away from the bustle of the restaurant, choose a room in the separate lod...

This place is very charming. We stayed in the annex building and it was clean, quiet and cozy. After being in the UK for a week and this being our 3rd hotel I can honestly say this was a big room even by US standards. The main building where the lobby, restaurant and bar are is very charming and exactly what I hoped for in a England countryside hotel. The staff is very very friendly and the surrounding views are outstanding. The restaurant was blah but this hotel is well worth the stay and at a great price.

This hotel is a lovely quaint hotel set in beautiful grounds with a stunning view over the valley.

The hotel staff are superb and are very willing to help, they accomodated us very well we have a little dachsund puppy so each day they brought our breakfast to us into the bar instead of the restaurant, this suited us very well. The assitant manager also had a Daxie puppy so it was great ours had a little friend, that made the weekend for us.

The room in the outter house was suuficent, the bathroom was a good size and shower was lovely, However it does not live up to the "superior" title and is a little basic, also bed was very uncomfortble.

The location of the hotel is great, some lovely places to walk and close enough to Bath city to get too but also has the countryside feel that we wanted.

We would definately stay here again but would like to be in the main part of the building as we heard the rooms were much nicer.

Overall a very lovely weekend.

It's a wonderful Gothic mansion used as a hotel with a newly built extension (where our rooms were) with beautiful Victorian gardens and a golf course. The room was spacious, nicely decorated and equipped (TV, Coffee or tea, hairdryer, internet...). Most of the stuff is very friendly and sociable in particular the barman and his "boss". We spent one night there so we only tried the breakfast which was good.

We stayed here for 2 nights on a Groupon deal, and got really good value for money from it, but I don't think I'd have enjoyed the usual prices so much. Our room was in the recently built annexe and extremely spacious, well decorated and warm.

Most of the staff are fabulous, particularly a tall chap who served in the restaurant and behind the little bar. There was one exception however... a lady with bleached blonde hair and too much make-up served us one evening and was quite abrupt and rude. Shame really, but it didn't spoil the stay.

The food was lovely, and as the menu was limited and I'm a vegetarian (same dish for 2 nights running) the chef knocked me up a butternut squash gnocchi, which was delicious. Breakfast was pretty good too, although the service was a little slower.

The main house is so quaint, and yes, it's a little shabby and they haven't quite got it right yet... I imagine it's a better place to stay in the summer when you can enjoy the grounds.
