“Perfect retreat!”

Swan Hotel

Apr 15, 2008

I could not recommend this hotel more highly. I took my mother as a mother's day treat. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful when booking and when we were there. The rooms were to a very high standard and the new decor very calming and tasteful. The beds and bedding were wonderful, the best night's sleep we have had in a B & B. The food in their restaurant was absolutely delicious, simple good cooking, and the vegetables alone could not have tasted better. Set in the beautiful surroundings of an old English town, a short train ride from Bath, it made a perfect weekend retreat.

“An excellent hotel”

Swan Hotel

I have stayed at the Swan 3 times. in total. Each time we have had excellent and efficient service, friendly staff and imaginative food. On two occasions our room was upgraded. The rooms are smart comfortable and clean. Reasonable prices too.

“A very enjoyable stay”

We booked the Swan at Bradford on Avon after being told by The Full Moon in Rudge that there was a wedding during our stay and our allocted room was directly above the reception room. We felt we had a
lucky break as The Swan was very good indeed. A very efficient booking process with a warm welcome on arrival and charming staff throughout who couldn't do enough to please. The hotel is ideally placed in the centre of Bradford on Avon and a quick stroll to the Saxon Church and other delightful areas of this historic town. The train station to Bath is a few minutes stroll away but we taxied into
Trowbridge for some functions we had to attend and £5 or £6 each way was good value. The Swan itself has been totally refurbished and is now a classy pub hotel with a nice bar and popular restaurant with a sun trap courtyard for drinks throughout the day. The colour scheme of the bedrooms in neutral beige and the rooms are comfortable and quiet. We booked a room at the back of the hotel and we didn't hear a sound. The bed was excellent with great duvets. The only disappointment was the flow of water from the shower which was a trickle and the fact that the room staff failed to replenish the shower gel. We booked a middle priced double at £110 a night and even
though this was on the high side for a hotel of this quality, it represented fair value for money. The breakfast included in the price
was very nice with fresh strawberries, a selection of croissants and a full English, all well cooked.

All in all, a very enjoyable stay and the Swan is certainly worthy of
consideration if visiting the area.

“Great place, bad service”

What a shame the service lets this otherwise charming boutique hotel down. The Swan has recently undergone a refurb, so don't take too much stock in reviews prior to Jan this year. The rooms are now both charming and luxurious and the prices not unreasonable.
Sadly the service continues to be a letdown. The owner is delightful, but he needs to keep an eye on his staff. The lady who greeted us could barely contain her contempt and the breakfast waitress was as incompetent as Manuel, without any of his hapless charm. In fact she was simply rude - greeting polite and smiling requests throughout our meal with no response other than a prolonged dirty look.
Our food was adequate, but not outstanding.
If the service was improved, it would quickly elevate this lovely hotel from being simply good, to really something special.

“double booked”

Swan Hotel

We stayed in the Swan hotel for two nights recently due to a double booking elsewhere. In spite of it being really last minute (and 2 double rooms) the staff went out of their way for us, were friendly, helpful and totally on-the-ball. Our rooms were clean, up-to-date and very comfortable. All that and old world charm as well, my Belgian in-laws loved the quirkiness of the place. The food was good, breakfast was excellent. If this is "New England" we're all for it. No chance of Nescafe or soggy toast here! It also had a very local feel about it, it's not just somewhere for the tourists, something we have encountered in other hotels. We're trying to think of something negative but we can't!

    • Liked — the modern up-to-date look
    • Disliked — the noise from the junction outside the front of the hotel (they can't help that however)
