We went to Woolley Grange for a 2 day break between Christmas and New Year - 8 of us including 2 grandparents, 2 parents and 4 children ranging in age from 18 months to 7 years old, so we covered every possible age range.
We all had a great time. The older generation appreciated the comfort in the refurbished Francis Randolph room, which was quiet, warm, and spacious, with a lovely bathroom; the middle generation found that all 4 children could fit into the (also refurbished) interconnecting Darnell and Atwell rooms, although the 2 younger members happily slept in travelling cots in one of the bathrooms which may not suit everybody. The smaller children loved the Hen House, with its caring staff and huge selection of baby and toddler toys and the older children enjoyed the beautiful pool and games for their age groups. Not to mention the possibility of some peace and quiet for all the adults.
The food, from the welcoming cream tea to the breakfasts and dinners, was very good and all age groups were catered for.
The staff throughout were excellent, cheerful and helpful.
I think that the description 'luxury family hotel' is apt. There are not that many hotels in the UK (and we have had experience of several both as parents, and now grandparents) that offer this level of service and comfort, albeit at a price. The balance seems to be about right, with the luxury element definitely being in the rooms, public lounges, candlelit dining room, pool and spa, and the family being so well catered for in the children's Dens and other play areas.
I have read some of the earlier, less positive posts, and it is a pity that some other guests did not have a happy experience. Yes, I could point out things that were not quite right. For example, the two younger children were given Z-beds, despite our advance e.mail for cots, but this problem was dealt with immediately and cheerfully. There was also a problem with some younger children disrupting the older children's evening film, but again this was addressed immediately.
I think that it is almost impossible to have this sort of family experience without the odd niggle, so the issue is how the management dealt with everything, and in our case everything was dealt with efficiently and quickly.
I have given Woolley Grange 5 stars because it does live up to the hype, and does exactly what it says on the tin.

Thank you very much for describing your experience of staying at Woolley during our Recharger package. I am so pleased to hear we got the balance right for everyone in the family; it was very enjoyable to have our first family with two sets of sibling twins stay with us.
Hope to see you again very soon.
Best wishes, Clare and the Woolley team.
