We stayed here to go and look at Longleat House and Lord Bath's murals which were fantastic. This hotel is a real gem - we had The Peacock Room which was one of the best hotel rooms we have ever stayed in, but asked to look at the other rooms out of curiosity because they were so interesting in terms of design and flair. The first thing I noticed about the room is the atmosphere - it is completely relaxed and unstuffy. The staff really could not do enough to help and were really lovely to chat to. We went a la carte and although in most hotels we usually wish we had eaten from the bar menu this was an exception to the rule -the food was really lovely and service spot on. The hotel is located on a pretty village green and you can actually walk to Longleat and the safari park easily. Toiletries in the room were of a high standard and replaced regularly. We will definitely be back - money wise it was worth it and good value I thought as it was quite special.

Very disappointed, we were on our honeymoon and booked a room from a picture on the website. When we arrived we were in a different room stating we had booked late even though I had booked 4 months in advance. Walls very thin could hear our neighbours reading a story to their children at 5.30am!!. Room had single beds which we were told to push together!! Room very dirty and cold and plaster missing of the bathroom wall. Staff very helpful with our complaints at the time. I wrote a letter of complaint to the manager but received no reply. I would never return.

“Sweet little place”

The Bath Arms at Longleat

An old country inn in a tiny village just outside Longleat. We stayed in a double in the barn conversion just outside the main house. It was
cosy and individual, with old furniture, a high vaulted ceiling, and a
slate-tiled bathroom. The rooms in the main house are probably even better, if you have the choice (we didn't, having booked the last room
free at the weekend). Inside the main house, there's a tiny bar with a wood fire and local ales, and a large, elegant stone-floored dining room. Venturing out, there are green Wiltshire fields on all sides, perfect for winter walks. But the best feature was the staff, who were
uniformly warm and welcoming. Downsides: nothing significant, though on our first night the heating in the entire hotel broke! In November!
Brrrrr, it was lucky there was a thick feather duvet to keep us warm. They didn't offer us a discount for this, which is the only reason I haven't given them a five-star review. Breakfast (porridge, cooked English) was pleasant, but not more - didn't live up to the charming service. Finally, some tips: there aren't any hairdryers in the rooms (you have to borrow them from behind the bar, oddly enough). But there
are DVD players, so bring films, and CDs if you want music.

We stayed for two nights 25/26th September having taken advantage of a special offer, £300 dbb for two people. This was good value for what we got. The full rate we thought was rather overpriced. However, we had a lovely stay. The staff were very friendly. We enjoyed the food. The a la carte menu was very short but all our choices were excellent. Breakfast was slightly chaotic but not the standard of service or food. The hotel decor was described as 'quirky'. It certainly was - apparently done by a well known interior designer. Our bedroom, Flashman, was lovely, very OTT, deep purple walls, bilous green in the bathroom. We were delighted with it despite banging my head several times on the low door frame between bedroom and bathroom! We weren't so sure about the decor in the public rooms. Some of them looked more like 'Del Boy' than designer but that is only our opinion. It is in a lovely quiet setting as well - great for a relaxing getaway.

Might not be to everyone's taste, but very clean and tidy place with a lot of character to it in an excellent location - you couldn't be any closer to Longleat without bunking up with Lord Bath himself.

Our room (Bird in the Hand) was at the top of the building and would probably have been overwhelmingly hot in the heat of the summer. It being 2007 and our summer having no heat to it, it was comfortable enough, if a little bit of a tight fit for two adults, a 5 y.o. on a camp bed and a baby in a cot. The kids' menu was however a bit on the pricey side (£6.50 for dippy egg and soldiers?!), and dinner wasn't of spectacular quality for the adults - but that was reasonably priced at least. The cooked breakfast, on the other hand, was great.

All in all, a very pleasant experience, and we would definitely stop over there again if we found ourselves in the area - although we might find somewhere different to eat our dinner...
