“Excellent and cheerful service, clean linen but in need of modernisation.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2010

Found hotel easy enough - situated on corner of mini roundabout, close to Morrisons and the main High street. The main hotel car park was poor.It only had space for about 3 small cars, but you can park on the main road all night after 6pm. The room had a double bed and a single and they were fresh and clean. The toilet, shower and sink were functionable but were all in seperate areas of the room - a bit quirky really. It had a small TV with some freeview channels and a coffee/tea tray. The whole hotel though really needs updating - new carpets, new windows, new bedroom furniture, new tables in breakfast room etc. Cooked breakfast was substantial and cheerfully served.Check in and out was smooth and pleasant.

The hotel is in the middle of Warminster within easy walk of shops and station. Car parking is minimal but there is a cheap public car park across the road. The hotel sits on the junction of the Bath and Frome roads and has no outside amenity space.
There is a bar and restaurant on the ground floor. The bar doubles as the hotel reception. Stairs to the bedrooms are steep and narrow as it is a very old building and there is no lift. The interior has not changed in thirty years except to be redecorated from time to time.
We had room 1 which has a fully functioning shower (and how often can you say that) and whb in the room and a separate wc. There is a new carpet, bedding and fresh decoration but otherwise is exactly the same as it was twenty five years ago, and just as clean.
Mr Brandini has retired and his daughter now runs the business and there are a lot of attractive young people running the show. Mr Brandini though still serves breakfast. Full English and at these prices I don't know how they do it.
Unfortunately we didn't try the restaurant which aims for a mix of italian and british cuisine.
Doors are thin and floors are creaky but we had a good night's rest.
Service was good. We asked for champagne and strawberries in our room and we got them. We have no criticism at all.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2008

Stayed one night in a Twin Room with my friend, following an evening session at the Aqua Sana Spa at Centerparcs Longleat.

LOCATION
The hotel is only a 5 mins walk from the very centre of Warminster, where the pubs and shops are.

ACCOMMODATION
No luxury. Our twin room (No. 4) had a single and a double bed. I slept in the single and found it extremely soft, but slept ok. The room had a TV (which we didn't use) and a small wardrobe (ok for just one night, though probably too small if you're staying a long time). It was clean, but could do with some maintenance (the window didn't close properly, the toilet seat was lose). Our room was actually situated in a separate 2 storey building across the street from the hotel/restaurant/reception, I don't know if all rooms are in that building, but there were quite a few there. It was fairly quiet throughout the night, but I don't think the hotel was particularly full.

2 towels per person were provided and I think there were tea/coffee making facilities.

There was only a single Yale lock on our door and the door from the street was always open, so we didn't feel all that safe, although to be honest, Warminster doesn't strike me as the crime capital of the world. It seemed a sleepy little town (at least, on a Monday night in March).

PARKING
Very limited. There is a small courtyard by the building where the rooms are, with just about enough room for 3-4 cars (and a lot of maneuvering), otherwise you have to park on the nearby roads which unfortunately are mostly restricted, which means you can forget about a lie-in as you'll have to move your car by 8 or 9am.

FOOD
We had breakfast at the hotel's restaurant. A choice of different cooked breakfasts, toast, cereals and juice, brought to your table. We didn't eat there at lunch or dinner, but the owners are Italian, so the Italian options might be quite good. The cooked breakfast was absolutely fine.

SUMMARY
This is a place to go to if you simply need a place to sleep rather than wanting to treat yourself to a pretty little hotel. At £45 for a twin room including breakfast we thought it offered fantastic value for money, and that's all we were interested in.

  • Liked — Very central, good value for money
  • Disliked — Could do with regular maintenance and better door locks
