Cheap truly is the best word to describe this place. It was easily the best value for money - especially since we stayed on a Saturday night - but it could really do with some modernisation. Our room, unfortunately, was not actually in the main hotel building, but across the road around the back of a different pub. Alos, as previous reviewers have mentioned, the lock on the bedroom door was very poor. Otherwise, the room was fine - adequate beds, a small, weak shower, but a shower nonetheless and a working television.
Noise was however, an issue for us. We were warned a day prior to arrival that there would be an 18th birthday party taking place near our room but little did we know how loud it would be. Luckily, none of our group were particularly tired because 90s pop songs were blaring until 12.20. They then started up again at 04.30. Understandably, nobody particularly wanted to leave the building to complain and with no phone in the room, there was little we could do. The next morning, there was evidence of the party (takeaway chips literally lined the route from the bedrooms, down the stairs, to the entrance) which did nothing to lift spirits. The breakfast did however - it was included in the cost of the room and you could've had a fry-up (or cold options) however you wanted: great.
On a final note, the staff were also less welcoming than anticipated. They were very, very helpful and swift in replying to emails prior to our visit but we struggled to check in when they repeatedly questioned our ages before demanding full payment upfront. Not a good impression. So overall, wouldn't stay again, was the worst of four budget hotels we stayed in on our trip, but wasn't so offensive as to have ruined the holiday.
Do NOT choose rooms 1-10, they are in the other building. AVOID.
