“Local haunt”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013 via mobile

The anchor itself its a beautifully decorated establishment, the main bar being a good old fashioned pub, full or mahogany and brass and in winter, cosy log fires. The new skippers bar and restaurant next door has recently been refurbished and is extremely modern with its silver and purple colour scheme and underlighting, perfect as is turns into a nightclub at night. I personally eat in at lunchtimes, in the main bar, for a real pub lunch feel. Food has always been tasty and portions just right. Service can vary, some people need to smile more while others such as chris, geoffrey and gardiner are great. If dining in evening, be aware this is not the place to dine late as it fairly fills up with drinkers and music starts early. Also, depending on time of year and which locals are about, you can be met with some people a bit worse for wear, though it is a pub after all, to avoid this go to skippers next door :)

“Great for food and a night out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

Visited the anchor bar this weekend on a couple of occasions for food and a bit of a night out. Food was excellent, I had the Beef stir fried noodles and my friend went for seafood chowder, both arrived fairly quickly and where delicious. Decor in the middle bar/restaurant is lovely with mood lighting. Visited the nightclub bit upstairs later that day , absoluteyl bunged but great music and a good night had by all. NW200 weekend so the whole place was absoluteyl jammed!

“Surprisingly good!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

Not being used to eating in bars, we were very pleasantly surprised with the presence of a dining room adjacent to the lounge. What really surprised was the absolutely great meal. The best fish and chips - beer battered haddock, very freshly caught, and excellent salads. The dining room was decorated in modern fashion, was quiet though busy, so conversation was not competing with background noise. It was relaxing, delicious, and very reasonably priced. A good recommendation for anyone.

“good spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

had a meal here with friends and it was excellent. Great atmosphere, food was quick and well cooked and a good selection on the menu. Reasonably priced as well, a good spot for a few drinks after a meal as well.

“Not expected experience in reference to these reviews...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013 via mobile

Hadn't eaten in here in a while.heard they had changes in regards to the menu etc. read the reviews first..had high expectations. asked for a medium rare minute steak..received a well done piece of leather..no seasoning. my partner got the ploughmans sandwich consisting of serious slabs of cheddar and a random assortment of fruit..must of been whatever was in the kitchen at the time. staff weren't overly friendly..just tired looking. Just don't understand why its rated so high when the reality is mote than disappointing.better value for money at the harbour cafe.
