“Absolutely First Class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2009

My boyfriend and I enjoyed a fantastic stay at the Strand Guest House in Portstewart. From the moment we arrived, we knew we would definitely return. The house itself is extremely tastefully decorated whilst the owners themselves were very welcoming.

As soon as we had checked into our room, we were offered tea/coffee and homemade scones (in addition to the hospitality tray already in our room). A cafetiere of nice coffee and delicious warm homemade scones followed shortly. The owners also flexible in terms of the breakfast arrangements for the next morning as they asked us what time we would like breakfast rather than offering set/ rigid times as would be the case in other places.

Our room was very tastefully decorated, exceptionally clean and spacious with a nice view of the sea on a quiet road (with off-street carparking). In addition, the bathroom was spacious with a large walk-in power shower etc and was well stocked with complimentary toiletries and numerous soft/ fluffy good quality towels. The bed was also extremely comfortable offering a perfect place for a well deserved break!

Needless to say the breakfast served the next morning was also exceptional which was in keeping with our overall impression of this guesthouse. The service, hospitality of the staff and the food itself was excellent. Shortly after we sat down, we were given a fresh fruit salad and a selection of fresh yoghurts, as well as a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. The buffet table also offered a good selection of cereals, seeds and dried fruits. The menu for the hot breakfast options had a great selection and both my boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts, which were also served with a tray of home-made breads and toast.

We were very sorry that we had only booked this guesthouse for one night. However due to the last minute nature of our booking, the Strand Guesthouse was fully booked for the Sat night and we therefore made a booking in Portrush at another guesthouse which was also described as "luxury accommodation" and was of a similar price to the Strand Guesthouse (however the one in Portrush was £10 cheaper). Unfortunately the guesthouse that we went onto stay in the following night in Portrush could best be described as a youth hostel in comparison to the standard received the night before at teh Strand Guesthouse. I could not believe the difference in our experience from one night to the next, given that both were a similar price.

In summary, I cannot recommend the Strand Guesthouse highly enough and will definitely be back. We were very sorry to be leaving it after only one night and were even more disappointed when we reached the opposite of this level of service in Portrush the following evening.

We had a superlative stay at Strand House. The totality was gold standard. This review is in response to a previous guest who slags off the single room. Why didn't he/she asked to be moved? Both Ernestine and Tom I'm sure would bust a gut to help anyone and they're perfectly approachable. Needless to say I was comfy and happy in the single room - gorgeous view, ace bathroom, exceptionally good bed and both beautifully designed and fitted.

Our 3 night stay here was brilliant. - the weather was typically changeable when we stayed but this B&B is anything but typical.
Ernestine loves trying out new recipes so your breakfast will be a feast whatever she dreams up for extras - rhubarb jam and the most wonderful breads were on offer for us. Decor and rooms are top quality and the toiletries are wonderful. this place is run by people who obviously want to give their guests the most comfortable of stays & it really shows.
The Antrim coastal route is a must and the Strand House is a brilliant location if you're looking to do a bit more than just the Causeway. Fantastic beaches & scenery - check out the 'Dark Hedges' , Bregagh Road nr Stranocum near Ballymoney for something a bit fantastical.

Our foursome stayed four nights in May during our golf trip to Northern Ireland. Strand House is just a walk up the road from Portstewart Golf Club - a course that will not disappoint you. Strand House is quite new in an upscale neighbourhood. The rooms are very clean and bright. Ernestine and Tom were wonderful hosts; they couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. This is excellent value.

Stayed for 2 nights in May 2009 and had excellent service. Ernestine is delightful and could not do enough, to make us feel welcome. The rooms were clean and very well decorated. The location is fabulous, with only a 5 minute walk to the Strand. Breakfast was great, with a menu selection and everything freshly made. Check out the home- made bread!!! Better service than any hotel could offer.

I have stayed here twice and definitely won't be back which is what I said after the first visit! I was given the same attic room on both occasions. Every time I moved I felt I was going to bump my head on the sloped ceiling at each side of the window and above the bed!! The ceramic tiles on the bedroom floor made the room feel very cold. Best things were the car parking at the front door, location and the view.

Our group stayed in this guest house for a walking trip to Giants Causeway. The trip was fantastic - Giants Causeway is beautiful but it was the accomodation that made our trip. We were given a wonderful welcome and the bedrooms were so luxurious. The owners made us feel so at home and the breakfast was to die for. Everything was home made and we couldnt eat enough. The price was very reasonable. It was better than any hotel - in fact Id go so far as to say it was the best accomodation Ive ever stayed in and we will definately be back if just for the breakfast alone!!!
