“Big refurb needed with some staff training”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2010

Very disappointed. The place is very tired, and smells musty. Shame, because 10 years ago it was a nice place to go to eat and drink. I ordered a whole prawns to start, which would have been great warm as expected, and then "Chicken Kiev", (how very 80's of me" and it came out black.... I asked the young waitress if maybe the oven was too high... she just giggled and walked away, which was fine, as if I had wanted to have complained, I would do it through the correct channels... so I picked all the black breadcrumbs off... and enjoyed the curly flies, I mean fries.... loads of flies in the place.. maybe not altogether the hotels fault, but it was very noticeable and they could maybe have done something! When the waitress came back to take our plates, (not asking if was everything ok), I mentioned that the chicken was very burnt, to which she replied "I'll tell the chef" and that was that... it just means I won't go again and I will write on trip adviser. All the staff were either very young or not English, Shame, but that's definitely my last trip to the Kings Court.

This has areas that are adequate, that I could recommend staying are in the new Kings rooms, these are the same std as a Travel Lodge, as is the breakfast which is buffet style (all the reviews i have read on TA seem to be about these rooms). On the bad side, the older (original ) rooms are really dirty , smelly and run down, with the added residents of flies. The bathroom in Room 42 is really bad, housekeeping need some training, they can not possibly be using thorough checking mechanisms. Room 20 seems to be the one with hot / cold taps on the wrong way round. I checked into room 42 and there were 19 dead flies on the window sills, they moved me to a Kings Room, but the only one left was the disabled one, so was not ideal, with the wet room shower, you need to stand in water to blow dry your hair in the bathroom (is this safe?). The room was also dark ,so putting makeup on is an issue. I would check when you book to ensure you stay in the new rooms, otherwise you will be disappointed. If the hotel is reading this, then please shut the old rooms off for a month and get some money spent on these rooms, they are letting an otherwise really good business down, it's such a shame.

We stopped here on Saturday 18th Sep on way to Cornwall. It was so good we decided to stop again on our way home the following saturday. The previous review does not correspond with this hotel at all so it must either relate to another Kings Court Hotel or guests were very picky. We had rooms in the New wing which were superb. Large comfy bed, good bathroom , plenty of room and spotless. They were extremelly well sound insulated as was the corridor with thick carpeting. ALL the staff were spot on, polite, friendly and helpful especially the West Brom supporter -(dont know his nane). We had breakfast and evening meals and found them to be very good value / prep and taste. The Breakfast was self serve buffet plenty choice and tasty especially the HUGE sausages. On both saturdays there were wedding parties on but they did not interfere at all with our enjoyment and as the hotel has plenty of venue rooms / restaurant areas we were not invaded by guests passing by etc. The location is quiet about a mile from Alcester town which has some lovely old buildings and Stratford is about 10 mins away and worth a visit.
I would fully recommend this hotel and would certainly return.

We stayed here for only one night and that was too long. Luckily we had friends to go and see in the evening so we didn't have to spend long in the room. On arrival we noted that the water coming out of the cold tap was very hot (as was the water coming out the hot tap), which shouldn't even be possible. We moved to another room but the water coming out the cold tap was warm still. We went and bought bottled water. The rooms were dark and dingy and all stank - a mix of oldly mouldly with the smell of air freshner trying to cover it. Everything was well past it's best. Cleaning was awful, with fake flowers in a thick layer of dust, dirty carpets and overflowing cigarette stands outside. Breakfast was awful. Congealed fat and poor quality food, with bits of the packaging in my grapefruit. We got this room discount and still felt we paid too much.I would never step foot in the place again.

Great stay, comfortable rooms, Twisted Boot (Hotel Pub) very good as well.
Usually not in our price class but with a last minute special (late rooms) it was reduced. We enjoyed it there!

Stayed one night whilst driving from Plymouth to The Lakes and could not have been happier. An old Tudor House that has evolved into a modern hotel and conference centre.

Room was very big with an enormous King size bed (rare in the UK), excellent modern furnishings, wonderful bathroom with modern fit out (though as is typical of all modern hotel bathrooms, shower screen is groovy but inadequate and let water onto floor), fluffy towels, large flat screen TV etc etc. I was surprised how plush the hotel was for the moderate price at the end of a bank holiday weekend.

Breakfast is only until 9am on weekdays (later on weekends) so we coudn't have a sleep in after a long day of driving but it was very generous as far as options for both hot English and cereals, yoghurts, juice etc. Breakfast is buffet tyle but service and plate clearing was spot on. Coffee was awful though - instant offee in the room was better.

Not within walking distance of anything but no need as there are a range of meal options (and drinks!) at the restaurant or bar. Would recommend for touring or a visit to Stafrod Upon Avon as there is a local bus into the town. Reception staff were also friendly andd helpful. Free WiFi - just get the code from reception.
