My business colleague chose this hotel purely for it's location with regards to work. The hotel looks tired from the outside and this is confirmed inside. The greeting by the receptionist reminded me of Fawlty Towers. The lady was on the phone and being on her own asked us to wait, so we had no option to wait until she'd finished her call. Not a good start. The interior of the hotel is tired and in need of TLC and this was also the case throughout all the areas of the hotel I visited. The rooms were noisy on the front of the hotel. The room, 208, was adequate but the standard of housekeeping was poor. The tissue holder in the bathroom had no tissues in it. There was a used sachet shower from a previous occupant in the soap dish. The room despite being non smoking stank of cigarettes and the waste bin in the bathroom which hadn't been emptied was full of paper rubbish including cigarette butts - a serious fire hazard. The TV remote had no batteries in it, very frustrating. The walls were picture less and cold. The outside of the windows needed cleaning. The double glazing needed fixing. There was a hole in the bedroom ceiling needs fixing. A socket by the kettle is essential but not provided in room 208. For some bazaar reason the curtains for the one window are in four parts and one section had no curtain hooks on it which resulted in them not closing properly. The banquet style chairs in the bedroom further added to the unsatisfactory and tired look to the accommodation. I slept well but would only consider this venue as a last resort and when it made sense for business reasons.A guest comment card in the room would help management maintain a better standard of rooms. A visit to the bar, entered via what appears to be a back of house route, found it to be characterless and very tired, in keeping with the rest of the hotel. Breakfast whilst not brilliant was the saving grace, cooked to order and plentiful despite the set up resembling more of a hostel than a hotel - milk in the carton, cereals in tupperware containers. A fantastic choice of venus if you seek a 1970's concept in the 21st century.
