“Wonderful time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2012

We recently stayed at the the above mentioned hotel. The owners Nick and Julie Champion along with Julie's parents Bob and Pauline could not have made us more welcome.
Nothing was too much effort and we were made to feel special during our entire stay. We will definitely be back again and again and also will recommend the hotel to all our friends and family.

Reataurant meal. Booked for mid-week with a vouvher from Groupon. Despite discount, would not return for food; however, wines were great. Mushrooms with stilton were tasty. Steaks were a big disappointment. Even after stating that steaks were not to my liking, the waiter only offered to cook the steak some more (how much more than "rare" is acceptable?). £77 bill for 2 people was way OTT for the quality of food served.

Stayed here for 1 night in order to visit a local restaurant. Probably won't find myself in the area again, but if i do I will probably stay elsewhere.

Positives
Convenient location for Oxton (and the michelin starred restaurant Fraiche).
Staff polite and helpful
Room (15) was pretty large and the bed/furniture was clean and comfortable.

Negatives
£75 for the room (breakfast not included) is ridiculously overpriced for what you get
Double glazing seals had gone, so room was drafty and road noise carried through
Bathroom smelled funny (possibly of damp)
Bathroom lino was coming away in places and hanging loose
Shower door was hanging off and wouldn't close
Hot water tap was stiff to turn on and then impossible to turn off
The metal pipes in the shower were covered in an unidentifiable substance that looked like (but hopefully wasn't!) battery acid
The soap hanger was in an awfully tatty, rusted state (inexcusable really when a replacement would be about 70p)

Someone needs to give this hotel a good bit of tlc - starting with a few small things that would make a huge difference.

For £75 (no breakfast) I expected far better than this.

After having read the last 2 reviews i thought i would give my own....

I have stayed here before with my kids and am staying again next week duruing half term as it is a lovely hotel with great chartacter and lovely staff.

Some of the rooms are smaller but all the facilities are excellent and i have not found anything wanting.

The soaps and gels in the room are more than adequate and my English breakfast was outstanding(i didnt like the tomato though).

Free wifi in the bar/lounge is great for me as the kids cant log on in the rooms......

All in all a lovely family run hotel with good rooms and service. I would much prefer them to other more corporate venues.

See you next week!!!
lol

Room Tip: Room at the top for kids. Dont know the number!

Let’s start with the positives – the staff were very friendly and helpful, the lounge was comfortable and pleasant and the wi-fi was free (but only works in the lounge).

But the overwhelming impression was one of all pervading meanness. My room was tiny, like a cell. The dressing table was perfectly OK but there was no chair to sit on at it or anywhere else in the room. TV was tiny and old fashioned and almost unwatchable since there was nowhere to sit down within range of it. The bathroom had the smallest bar of soap I’ve ever seen and a sachet of shampoo with approximately 3 millilitres of stuff in it. The shower was a dribble that wasn’t worth bothering with.

The breakfast was OK though the coffee tasted as if it had been stewed for hours. The marmalade etc were in the meanest nastiest sachets you could buy from cheapest cash and carry – the basket of sachets included several which had already been opened.

The obligation to pay all money up front further gave this place the air of a cheap seaside boarding house in Blackpool sometime in the 1980s. There’s nothing wrong with cheap boarding houses in Blackpool, but this place wasn’t cheap - £63 for a night for a single room, ludicrously overpriced when you think the Premier Inn up the Road only charges £58 for a far superior experience. And there must be countless B&Bs in the vicinity that can give you a comfortable bed and decent breakfast for considerably less than this.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the old bit of the building - I think they're bigger and less grotty
