“Nice wee pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

Went to the Halfway House when staying at the hilltop lodge B&B, got a meal there (which was lovely) and then stayed for a few drinks and a couple of games of pool.

“Halfway to where?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

I visited what was once an excellent restaurant and was surprised to see a For Sale sign up. It appears that this restaurant in now in the hands of administrators for whatever reason, but it was disappointing all the same.
It was a Friday evening at 8.00pm when the place should have been buzzing, but unfortunately there were only 6 other people in the restaurant. The food itself was pretty good, but the service let it down. Whether the staff have just had enough, I don't know, but they didn't seem interested in the few people that were there and there was no life about it at all. However, that said I will give it another chance and hopefully when the new owners (if there are any) take over it will turn itself around again. If I had the money I would take it on myself as I think it has great potential.

“Restaurant in Limbo”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

The Halfway House was for easily 20+ years considered to be one of THE best restaurants in Northern Ireland. However it's current state is because it is being run by the administrators - sadly the family that made it such a wonderful place since the late 1970's (and whose ancestors opened it as a bar way back around the turn of the century) are no longer involved.

This shows in the interior, where that wonderful buildup of historic family memorabilia has been removed and in the service (where most of the staff are expecting to leave at any moment). However, these are REASONS for the poor state of the place, not excuses.

We visited recently and were pleased with our food and service, however it was empty at the time. The cleanliness is very poor and must be corrected as a matter of urgency. I have no doubt The Halfway House will find a buyer soon and return to its former glory, so please don't write it off just yet, keep an open mind, and perhaps call in a few months after the For Sale sign is down............such a shame the administrators cannot keep the place running so the new owners will inherit "The Halfway"'s legendary reputation.

I spent many happy years here, both behind and in front of then bars and it's heartbreaking to see the administrators just keeping it open like this. I look forward to seeing what the new owners will do to restore its reputation, and look forward to re-visiting when it is once again being run by people who love it like the previous owners did.

“A great steak house”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

Situated between Banbridge and Dromore just off the A1 this is a great Restaurant/Bar which serves good food. I particularly love their steaks, actually very hard to beat and I have had a lot of steaks in my time.
