“Great B & B”

Four of us had a warm welcome from Margaret and were given comfortable rooms. Breakfast was splendid and freshly cooked to order. It all felt very homely and we were treated to a tour of Ronnie's fabulous collection of old restored tractors and cars. An added bonus was watching the red squirrels playing in the garden. Thanks very much to you both and if we in the area again we will be back and will certainly be recommending you to other travellers to the Ards area.

Wonderful warm Irish welcome from Margaret and Ronnie and a really great house in a wonderful setting very near the shores of Strangford Lough. Comfortable en suite room for my son and myself with character beds which were very good. Great breakfasts! Served in a dining room with a host of interesting features (the sideboard is truly amazing!). Self catering option also available and set quietly in a courtyard beside the main house. If you have even a passing interest in mechanical engineering and agricultural machinery Ronnie's knowledge and experience is quite incredible! The house can be powered by an ancient but very effective generator in the event of a power cut! If he offers to show you his collection don't hesitate to say yes! You will be in for a real treat from a true enthusiast with a mine of information and knowledge. Visit to Mount Stewart just down the road also very well worthwhile - stunning NT house and gardens.

Room Tip: All rooms are just great! Beautifully furnished and well equipped. We stayed in Primrose which is a...

Our host Margaret made us dinner reservations at a pub near by and that was helpful due to our late arrival. Margaret treats everyone as part of the family and you feel truly a part of the family. The food was good and the rooms were nice.

Room Tip: Ask fro a room on the ground floor if you have special needs.

Thank goodness, Margaret had the cottage available since I had injured myself on arrival in Ireland and was having to use a wheelchair. The cottage has a kitchen, living room and two bedrooms, one on the ground floor. Margaret had already made us a dinner reservation in the nearby town. The B&B was charming and the grounds were in full flower. So comfortable I wish we had been staying more then one night.

It is no exageration to describe the Deerings home as the best B&B ever! As a prior person wrote, Margaret treats everone as royalty. I found her through Frommer's Guide and I can't say enough about her.
We were so looking forward to staying there but shortly before we left home she wrote how sorry she was but her family had booked them on a Mediterranian cruise. She helped us find another place but then at the last minute their date was changed and she asked if we still wanted to come. Of course we answered yes.
Their home is an absolute gem! Beautiful antiques and family photos abound.
Her breakfast was absolutely fantastic! Served with every possible detail showing the love she has for what she does.
If you travel to Northern Ireland, don't miss the Ards Peninsula and a stay with Margaret Deering. It will be a highlight of your trip!

Room Tip: You don't need a tip! Every room is perfect!

In 2004, we stayed at Ballycastle House for 4 nights. We dined on Royal Doulton china, ate the finest Irish breakfast, with fresh fruit and fresh baked bread. The surrounding area is a dream come true and the Strangford Lough is but a walk away. Mount Stewart is a must to see and all this, right next to the most charming home on the Lough, Ballycastly House. In the early evening you will see a breath-taking view of Scrabo Tower while the sun is setting behind it. After we left, a family emergancy occured and Mrs. Deering was able to put us up again for 4 more nights! We rented the warmest, coziest cottage and she helped us feel like family. Mr. & Mrs. Deering went beyond kindness to accomodate us...We were absolutely blessed for staying there. This year as we go to Ireland, we are staying there again and renting the cottage! Margaret Deering is the most dear person and she treats all her guests as royalty!! Go there, you will not be sorry. You will only be sorry that you didn't book your entire trip around Ards, and stayed at Ballycastle House!
