I brought two kids to Portrush to Barry's Amusements two weeks ago. The weather was changeable but that didn't really matter as half of the attractions were indoors and we were suitably kitted out.
There is no admission charge into the amusements. They operate a 'pay-as-you-go' system, where you only pay for the rides you use. That is a good idea with small children, who inevitably will get fed up - in my case after nearly 3 hours. In that time we went on a lot of rides, had lunch, went on more rides and bought two overpriced helium balloons. But what the heck, we were on our holidays.
With regard to 'value for money', you can lose the run of yourself and spend a fortune, and I can imagine that happening with older children who might want to go on everything five times. I was lucky that my two, ages 7 and 8, liked some things and were happy to wander round a bit.
There are attractions for all ages there. My eldest is 136 cm tall. If she had been 140 cm tall, she could have gone on practically any of the rides. She's already looking forward to next year when the world will be her oyster and The Big Dipper will no longer be out of bounds for her.
