“All you want in a B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

My husband and I stayed in The Keep Guesthouse for three nights recently and couldn't fault it. We had to find a B&B in a hurry to enable us to visit a sick relative and decided on this one from the reviews. We were not disappointed. The owners, Raymond and Heather, couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly and gave us ample information on local eateries, etc. Our room was extremely comfortable and bright with three windows letting in the spring sunshine. We slept well in the cosy bed and the room was always warm when required but not too warm in the early morning. There were extra heating facilities should they be required.
The Ulster Fry breakfast was delicious but if you wanted a variation or something different then it was no trouble. There was also a large choice of cereals, fruit, yoghurts, sauces and jams for your toast, etc., so no-one could complain of not having enough to eat to start their day. Having read a previous review regarding the fact that the owners didn't cook breakfast - does it really matter? As long as you enjoy what is put in front of you and the person cooking/serving it is personable and willing to help, which she was, then all's well!
Having had a couple of bad experiences in the past, one in England and one elsewhere in N. Ireland, we can honestly say that we were pleasantly surprised with our experience in The Keep Guesthouse. We will, no doubt, be back in Carrickfergus in the future and will certainly be staying here. As the saying goes, "there are no strangers in this B&B, only friends you have never met".

We stayed in The Keep Guesthouse for one night last weekend. I was honestly a tiny bit disappointed after reading the reviews here. We drove past it first as the signage is rather inconspicuous. The room itself was lovely, modern, clean and big enough. I loved the sky light however the view was not so pretty. I admit I assumed we'd be able to see the lough as the B&B is situated so close to it. The shower didn't work for us. We didn't have any water in the evening and felt it was too late to disturb the hosts to ask. We tried again in the morning and still no water. A house keeper helped us to get the water running. I thought it was too bad the hosts had house keepers looking after their guests in the morning rather than preparing breakfast themselves. There was a commercial feel to it and made the B&B less charming in my opinion. The information leaflet in the room is 50% about payment terms. I have never experienced anything like it. Again, that took away from the charm of the B&B. The host were perfectly helpful and knowledgeable though when we spoke to them after check-in. All in all it wasn't a bad stay but I had hoped for more.

We stayed at this guesthouse as we were attending a wedding at a local hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, nicely decorated and the beds were really comfortable. We had a fantastic breakfast the following morning (orange, cereal and ulster fry). A superb guesthouse.

Myself, wife and two daughters stayed in the family room, lovely decor and very comfortable beds, had a great nights sleep. The service was first class and we all had a lovely breakfast. Great location with plenty amenities to keep the kids ammused with a Cinema and McDonalds not 50 yards away. The couple that owned the place could not have been more helpful and had a great knowledge on the general area. We only stayed the one night but would have no hesitation on going back.

I have stayed here two times and highly recommend The Keep to anyone travelling here. The rooms are very comfortable and cozy, the staff are great and very helpful, giving tips on activities and things to do locally. Very easy to travel toward Belfast or the other route along the coastal road since the main road is close to go either direction. Fantastic Breakfast-(recommend the Ulster Fry). Shopping is close and everything you need is in walking distance. Stay here and you wont regret it.

I stay in many guest houses around Europe with work and the keep is up there with the best and very reasonably priced. Really nice couple that own it and the room was clean, spacious and well presented. The breakfasts are amazing too! If you are staying in carrickfergus stay here, even if your a royal! :)
