Peatlands is well worth a visit. Don't be put off by the rather boring sounding name. It is a hidden gem which includes miles of paths through a wide range of different types of woodland, interspersed with tiny lakes and bogland. There is something for everyone here from young to old and it is free! There is a beautiful cottage with a fantastic "cottage garden" - this is the information centre. There is plenty of room for children to play and lots of picnic tables available, with seats at many points along the walks.
Just a couple of points to note - we printed off maps from the walkni. website which were really useful because the information cottage with the site maps, is quite a way away from the car park. The signs to the cottage are away from the main car park, just beyond the way out sign!! So when you park go to the extreme right to find the main signage, ignoring the gates straight in front of you.
There is supposed to be a cafe on site but we visited on a Friday in July - height of the season, but it was closed, which seems strange. There was no sign saying what opening hours might be.
Despite these minor irritations this a place not to be missed.
