“Grim! Won't be returning”

Staff were friendly enough but the food was very transport caff and the premises were grubby. The park is worth visiting but take a picnic.

“Recent Developements you need to know”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

This truely was a really great place to visit, as still advertised, as having an Arboretum, deer park and nature trails.However.the Mansion and grounds has been purchased by a consortium, and they have now closed the Arboretum and deer park (which has not been mentioned to the public)
The local council still lease the park and existing facilities, and this lease runs out in March. It is Highly likely that it will not be renewed. The cafe is closing for business in October, and sadly many unsuspecting and ill informed visitors are paying the car park fee before discovering that the advertised facilities are no longer available. It is a loss to the community and to the county, and worse still is the local councils inability to update and inform the visitors !

“Lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

A lovely park with lots of trees, flowers and wildlife. There is also a nice park for the children to play with. The cafe is ok, but not up to standard....needs a good wash inside and out!!

“Great for a walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012 via mobile

I have been going to Gelli Aur on and off for the last few years or so and have always enjoyed. The kids love to play in the playground and enjoy exploring the trails. The last time I went which was 9th June 2012 I was surprised to see that the deer part of the park and gardens around the house were closed due to renovation. It is a shame as this was the main reason for travelling there.

The car parking charges are now a little bit stupid as there is no tiered system and so you have to pay £2.50 for the day but there is simply not enough to do there to hold you for the day.

The renovations are being done on landscape and an art gallery. This may keep you there for an extra hour or so but that is it. Why do places like this not cater for people with young children? They would make a killing.

Still, I love going there. Since the parking charges have gone up probably not as much, but the kids and the dog enjoy. I would still recommend going for a walk around Gelli Aur and I'm s when renovations are completed it will be great again.

If you don't live as close to Gelli Aur as I do then you can always bulk up your visit by going to Dryslwyn Castle and/or Paxton's Tower. Both have free parking and are only a short drive away.
