Owner description: Dinefwr is a wonderful 800 acre estate with parkland walks, a Mill Pond, Bog Wood Boardwalk, Childrens Play Area, Newton House with Tea rooms and courtyard shopping area and a Medieval Castle. The estate and Newton hosue are owned and managed by the National Trust. Castle Woods and Dinefwr Castle are owned by the South Wales Wildlife Trust and managed by Cadw. Dinefwr is a beautiful place to escape the rush of modern life and enoy the scents and sounds of nature. Whether you are marvelling at the wonderful panoramic views of the Towyi river from the castle parapets or getting up close to the dragonflies on the Mill Pond, you cant help but fall in love with Dinefwr's Parkland. There are walks to suit all abilities and childrens tracker packs to help families discover and have fun together. Newton House is not a noral National Trust dressed house but instead acts as an exhibition telling the history of times gone by. The charm of Newton House is truely expereinced on the free Hidden House Tour. It is a house with no ropes and very much a space for families to enjoy. Fancy playing a steinway piano ? You can in Newton House. Inside the house there is also the Billiard Room, a licenced restaurant, the China Passage Art Gallery; and the Inner Courtyard Gift Shop show casing local products and plants. Car Parking charges apply to those who are not members of the National Trust but allow free access to the parkland walks, play area and boardwalk as well as the access to the Castle. Admission to Newton House is charged separately but is free to National Trust members.

“Lovely place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

We only walked to the castle as we had three dogs with us, plus after paying £6 for the car park there was also another charge to visit the house. We fancied going for a coffee before the walk however that is also in the house so we would have been charged anyway. They have supplied a catering van in the car park though which is handy.

The walk to the castle is short and easy and the views are stunning. it is one of the better preserved castles in the area and there are plenty other paths to take if you wish to make the walk a little longer.

For those with dogs its also handy to know that they do have a 'dog' bin

“A Good Day Out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

This park is excellent for all ages. The walks in the grounds are easy to follow. The staff are friendly and helpful. The Billiard Room restaurant serves simple food and in cold weather there is a lovely log fire. The castle is very dramatic.

“great for walks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

lovely open landscape with great views. You can park at home farm and get into the grounds for free. The car park near the house costs £6 and there is an entry fee in addition to the house, but the old castle and grounds are free.

“Breath-taking scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

We didn't have time to look at the house, but the walk and climb to the castle is well worth the effort as the views are spectacular. Also recommended is the boardwalk that takes you through a boggy area with old moss covered walls, a small stream and fern and lichen covered woods leading to a beautiful lake. The bird life in here is fantastic, it's an English rainforest. Well worth a visit.

“Beautiful views of the valley.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

What can you say about the National trust? Thats another topic.
Dinefwr castle is a great location. Very scenic and as had the attention of countless artists .The parking is approx 1 mile from the entrance and the castle can be accessed from there via a number of different approaches. There is also access for the elderly via a long stony drive through sheep strewn fields to the top via 2 gates. There the castle is 50 yrds away.
The castle itself as recently had stonework completed and looks pretty good. The views are some of the best and on a clear day are quite stunning.Great place for walks ,but not that much there for children in terms of additional entertainment. There is tourist information and shop in the car park and the house itself does have a cafe. Which is average.
