“Tea time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

We recently took our 91 year uncle to tea at the Cawdor Arms. Llandeilo is difficult for parking, but we were able to use a drop off point at the door, before parking some distance away.
As you go through the door, do not be put off by the dark decor, not helped by the many down-lighters.
To the left and behind reception is the bar where you can order tea. It is not apparent on the web that they serve tea between 3pm and 6pm. There is a good choice of sandwich made with quality bread. There are scones, nicely made with more than ample cream and jam. There is also a good choice of cake. We chose a chocolate slice and was of a very generous size, of excellent quality, texture and moisture. Various coffees, black and green teas are available and you get at least two cups.
All the food, provided by a pleasant staff, is of an excellent quality. A very enjoyable, not rushed, tea, reasonably priced. Seating is in comfortable armchairs or dinning chairs at small tables. Toilets are clean. Pity about the decor, but still 5 star!

Many thanks for your positive review of The Cawdor. Our Afternoon Tea is extremely popular and I am very pleased to hear you enjoyed it so much.

At the Cawdor we are always looking for opportunities to improve and so we will certainly take on board your point regarding the lighting.

Thank you once again for your lovely comments and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

It is without a doubt one of the better pub hotels in Llandeilo, only surpassed by The Plough Inn which is just up the road in Rhosmaen. I've been here several times, and the quality of food really can't compare with the type offered in similarly priced establishments in Cardiff. However, this is in Llandeilo- so for many, it's a bit more luxury compared to pub food.

However, despite the local 'wow factor' The Cawdor seems to offer, I've found it quite dissappointing every time. The food is quite expensive, and not great and the 'living room' style seating area at the front is very dark. The larger function room is nice, but can't really be called a function room as it doesn't have its own PA system (only closed circuit speakers which play music from the office). So if you're going for an event (wedding etc) and need a PA or to use the projector, make sure you check EXACTLY what they offer- as we had a speech ruined due to the fact that a projector and amplification were promised, but the party were given a projector with no speakers, not ideal for a 'speech'! (also no microphones for speeches).

The rooms are nice, housekeeping staff very very helpful and lovely. But many of in our party complained about the rooms being too warm and uncomfortable.

It's OK, but I'm not sure what the fuss was about and I don't think it's. Worth a try- you may think otherwise :)

Room Tip: Higher floors are warmer, lower floors were noisier.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding our hotel.

I am pleased to hear you liked the rooms and found our team to be very helpful.

We do use the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients in our menu which is important to many of our customers and helps us to create a menu which is unique and appealing.

We are always looking for opportunities to improve and so appreciated your comments on how we can do this.

Overall, I hope you had an enjoyable stay and would welcome you back to The Cawdor again.

I stayed here last year in July for work. Very impressed with the size and decor of my room.I had supper at the restaurant that evening which was very well prepared. Breakfast was delicious. I took some sandwiches in my room later that afternoon with some bara brith. All delicious.
Recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

lovely small bijoux hotel with good food and service a bit of a treck from the car park . room was delightful but roasting on a hot night a big feather duvet is not for this weather - had to ask for a sheet, great bathroom. ate in hotel good food but inclined to put diners sitting too close together even when not full, reataurant service basic but very pleasant and helpful. a lovely town with some great shops and esp jewellery.!

Room Tip: dont have a room on the higher floors in the heat !

This is an old coaching inn that is an iconic part of Llandeilo. It is situated on the main street, which can be very busy with cars, agricultural and heavy goods vehicles. HOWEVER, once you are inside you are able to relax and enjoy the ambience of the traditional public areas. HOWEVER, once in the bedroom you are met with a bit of a modern wow. I stopped in Allt y ferin which had a modern four poster bed which was very comfortable with good linen. There are plenty of lights and plug sockets and free wifi, which is a little temperamental. The room had a TV with a limited number of channels and a dvd player. To my mind the tea making facilities were not of a quality comparable with the standard of the room.

It was a very hot day and the electric fan and large bottle of tap water were much appreciated.

The bathroom was very spacious with a high spec bath and shower, plenty of good quality towels and bathrobes. There are no small bottles of toiletries or showercaps, cotton wool etc but fixed containers of Moulton Brown shampoo and shower gel are provided.

I ordered sandwiches from room service and they were of good quality, very fairly priced, obviously freshly made and arrived very promptly. Soft drinks are reasonably priced as well.

There is parking to the rear of the hotel. There is not a separate side tab button for this on the website. You need to go to 'At a Glance Guide ' to find out one very important piece of information. Access from the car park to the hotel is down a series of steep steps. You can park outside the hotel to unload your luggage and any passengers. If you are on your own I would recommend taking a slightly longer but much easier walk by leaving from the vehicle exit and walking down to the main street.

There were one or two inconsistencies between the information on the website and the information for guests in the room eg which days the restaurant is open. On the whole the room was very clean but corners of the shower and some of the tile grouting are beginning to attract a black mould.

Breakfast was delicious and obviously freshly prepared. There was with a good choice of cooked items.

I have eaten here many times but this is the first time I stayed. All in all I was pleased with the experience and would recommend it, particularly if you are attending an event in town.

Room Tip: I was at the back of the hotel so did not get any road noise. There was a constant hum from an air c...

This is one of my favourite hotels in South Wales. I would like to disagree with previous reviewers who commented about the restaurant and staff. We have never been rushed to the table and always find the staff attentive and knowledgeable. I think the comments made about wine lists depend on your personal preference on wine. I only like certain types so would have those bottles regardless of food chosen. And speaking of the food it is amazing!! Fresh, good quality and locally sourced the food we had was the best we've had in a long time. Room was lovely a little coat of paint needed here and there but still lovely. Can't wait for our next stay now!!

Room Tip: Look for special deals where you can have an expensive room for up to half the price!!

Had a good overnight stay in Cawder. Arms. Food and service excellent. It was a present for my husband's birthday. However our room was up four flights of stairs- no lift as listed buildings. In addition the room was too hot,to be fair, there was a fan. The car park is located behind the building and again, there were steps from the courtyard to the car park. Good hotel, but be mindful if you have walking difficulty to book a room on lower floor.
