“Privacy and self-indulgence at the ultimate beach in Vietnam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2012

My husband and I heard about the Bai Tram Hideaway (its name is not Bai Tram Hideout) as an ideal spot to get away from it all. Since we live in Hawaii, and hang out at its finest beach (Kauna'oa at the Mauna Kea Resort), we can't imagine much better. But when business took us to Vietnam recently, we decided to check it out for a few nights. It took some effort to get there ... an easy hour+ flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Quy Nhon airport (where Bai Tram staff greeted us, offered refreshments in the form of local fruit juices, then boarded us into a car where we were given bottled water) ... followed by a scenic drive through Vietnamese countryside with a stop at an ancient temple ... then a ride (crazy Vietnam style, of course) through the seaside city of Quy Nhon, with a stop for refreshment ... then a cruise along the coast for several miles that turned on to a six kilometer long road of sand and dirt that was quite bumpy. A new road is under construction, and work is visible from the dirt road. The actual location gets an excellent rating from me, despite the time it took to get there.

Staying at Bai Tram Hideaway was well worth the journey we made! Unlike some travelers, perhaps, we had no interest in leaving. Other visitors happily traveled that bumpy road to participate in local activities and dine in Quy Nhon. We were happy to spend all of our time in this completely sheltered and undeveloped piece of paradise.

Bai Tram Hideaway consists of about seven villas, plus a central building with reception, bar, restaurant area, lounge and pool. It fronts a pristine beach with soft white sand that curves around a protected bay that compares to Mauna Kea's, but is more than twice as long, wider, and naturally isolated. The beach is dotted with a few thatched roof structures, to move your lounge chairs in and out of the sun, and we had it to ourselves! Well, we shared it on occasion, but each little pavilion was quite distant from the others. It was an amazing experience to feel so in tune to the stunning natural beauty of the tall green cliffs that contained and protected the south end of the beach and the zen-like barren rock formations carved by wind and the sea on the north end. In between these two tall sheltering mountains is a huge perfect crescent of beach, backed up by beach vegetation that is barely broken by paths to individual villas and the central building.

Our U-shaped villa had its own small pool, extending out from the dining patio which sat in the center of the "U." The villa's lovely bedroom suite opened to both from one side, and a living/dining area opened to both from the other side. The two wings of the villa were connected by a large entry area that could also open straight out on to the patio, and provided a view of the sea and rocky cliffs as soon as you entered the main door. Everything was comfortable, thoughtfully presented, and clean. This is a rural part of Vietnam, but all staff made an effort to communicate in English, and sought help if they didn't understand. The kindness and service orientation of all staff members was commendable.

The food was amazing! Croissants that rival the finest I've eaten in France, straight from the oven, served with house-made local jams, yogurt, and other breads. Cooling juice drinks (try watermelon juice, or passionfruit juice with tea). Amazing seafood, Vietnamese pancakes, western style items, vegetable and stir-fry preparations were served for each meal. My only complaint was that they served me too much food! I asked to be fed child sized portions, and that helped.

We had a wonderful experience here, and highly recommend Bai Tram Hideaway as a place to experience Vietnam's graceful hospitality, self-indulgent surroundings, and breathtaking natural beauty.

we wanted to stay for three days at seaside, to rest and enjoy a luxurious and quiet place. We found everything in Bai Tram : private beach and sea, nothing but a few villas lodge like with private pool, high standard, excellent food (notably seafood and organic veg grown on the property), outstanding level of service and kindness of the staff. On top of that, nice activities possible : visit to the local market with the Chef, bike trip around the village, ...

In a nutshell, a location to go to if you want to enjoy seaside in Vietnam with outstanding conditions.

Room Tip: ask for villas facing the sea ( there are more expensive of course but the difference is worth payin...

It was a sweet surprised to find out this boutique resort. I wonder why this one not becoming popular even 2 years running business. It is an amazing resort, completely "hide-out". The best private beach in the nation, it's clear and clean, calm, finest sand! I've spent my whole trip at the beach with my books. Such a real relaxation.

The villa itself is gorgeous. Love the bathtub most! The resort welcomed me by fresh flower pedal and herbal in the bathtub. The bed was great. Almost all villas have the private pool but to be honest, I didn't take a look at the pool as the beach was awesome! The main pool just in front of the restaurant is quite small.

Love this resort, will come back!

A family member recommended that I check out Bai Tram when I traveled to Vietnam a while back. Not really knowing what to expect, I journeyed from Ho Chi Mihn City to Quy Nhon and was blown away!!! Everything from the breath taking views to the service was just amazing. Trevor, the manager was so wonderful in making sure that every request was met. Everything to making sure the meals were perfect to scrounging up some bait and a fishing rod so I could fish off the beach. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I encourage anyone who visits to take a walk through the patty fields and to have dinner on the beach at least one night. The best part of the private villas are the indoor and outdoor showers and bath tubs. The entire property is ideal for travelers who are looking to experience something luxurious and different. If you are visiting Vietnam, Bai Tram is a must see!!!

Room Tip: Talk to Trevor!!!

Wonderful location, fantastic villas, tastefully decorated, excellent cuisine.
BUT: All these things you come to expect at that price point. What you dont expect is that none of staff except the manager and chef speaks english which makes service, although they try hard, very difficult. The place itself feels like a hotel that is not yet finished, the staff lacks training, as a guest you often get into situations that are uncomfortable due to the fact that the designated butler does not understand what you are trying to say. Seeing that the hotels states that they try to make the stay as "hassle-free" as possible, it seems very strange. They need to provide a much, much better service, if they want to be able to compete with the best of the pack which is where they're aiming looking at their prices.

I went to visit this hidden & new resort with my husband in February 2010 as I was close to Life Resort Quy Nhon where we stayed and because I wanted to check and to book for my holiday. But I was disappointed. I made a call before and the receptionist was very enthusiatic but the security at the gate was refusing us ridicoulously. Clearly they didn't have a good communication. (One more thing with the security guy. When we left we saw a line of employees standing there and the security was searching their body with hands. I guess they want to prevent theft but it was bad for guests to witness that). Finanlly we could got inside the resort. We were charged 100,000 VND for the resort tour but there was no tour. All we could do was looking around at the lobby... In general this resort is nothing incomparison with Six Senses hideaway (as it's claimed to be similar). The architect is very normal, the mail pool is already degraded cause I saw stains. The staffs were not impressive at all. If you want to hideaway you should go to "Six senses hideaway" instead.
