“Stop if you need to stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2014

It is found along the main road which most would drive through while heading up to Cape Reinga. Definitely stop at this toilet if you need to stop for a toilet break. It is a properly functioning toilet and was clean (the cleaner was just finished with it though). Pretty insides and quite noticeable when driving past. There's road side parking which should not be too difficult to get. There is also a zebra crossing which should make crossing the road a piece of cake.

It isnt a must stop, but just jot it down on your plan as you don't need to spend an hour in the bathroom unless you're having a bad one.

“OMG I'm reviewing a toilet.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014

Apparently the artist who created this TOILET is quite famous, and lived in the area for a time. Believe it or not it's actually quite interesting. And, yes, usable, which is just as well as we really needed the bathroom. It's right in the Main Street and look across the road. There are more works by the same artist.

“Interesting gem on the North Island”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014

We just stopped by and had a coffee in a small coffee shop by the road.
The toilets were just across the street and we had a look.
Not bad at all and certainly a better idea for a toilet design than the average one.
Don't go just for the toilets!

“Best penny I've ever spent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

Have always wanted to visit this work of art. On a short road trip to the winterless north, passing close to Kawakawa we deviate to check this iconic building out. The small town has an interesting main street. A railway line runs straight down the main street, no barriers is a refreshing change in this p.c world. The toilet building has a coloumned street front of colourful stacked flower pots with a grassy living roof. Its quite incredible inside. Crazy paving mosaics fill the walls. The windows constuction of cement inbedded with bottles is fantastic. Whoever is responsible for the up keep is doing a brilliant job, it's super clean, the tiles polished to shine. My husband and I both spend 'pennies' inside and donate more generously in the box outside. A must stop.

“Great Toilet Experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2014

Definitely worth a look. A work of art! The walls are made from bottles and mosaics. A lot of work has gone into this. On the main street in Kawakawa opposite the Amazespace attraction.
