“Excellent Stay At The Kapalua Villas!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2011

My wife and I had a great stay at the Kapalua Villas from 10/1 - 10/7. We stayed in the Bay Villas, 27-G3 one bedroom, oceanfront unit. The unit was clean, nicely decorated, had excellent views and was perfect for a relaxing visit to Maui. The staff at the Kapalua Villas was excellent from reception to maintenance to the cleaning crew.
The grounds are impressive and well maintained. Walking or driving through the vast complex provide a great experience with the various and beautiful plants/flowers.
We hiked daily on the local trails and found them to be a good hike with easy to moderate difficulty. Thanks again for a great vacation! We'll be back!

Aloha,

"We'll be back", now that's a statement we love to hear, over and again :)

I am glad that earned such a review and I will surely pass it along to my entire team as we always do.

Walking and Hiking are some of the understated joys that should be experienced in a tropical resort such as Kapalua, doing so creates a connection unlike that of other more hurried activities. There are many trails and adventures on property and throughout west Maui to challenge those at all levels, often taking you to places that just take your breath away...

When you do plan your next visit, call me. I will assist in any way that I can to ensure yet another wonderful vacation.

Sincerely,

Anthony Freda

Turquois, cerulean, royal, whatever your favorite shade of blue, you will see it in the sky and water at Kapalua. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific and with a stunning view of Molokai, there is no lovelier place on the planet. Here, serenity takes hold and never lets go.
This our second visit to the villas this year and both experiences have been above expectations. We stayed in an oceanfront one bedroom “gold” villa (23-G2). The great advantage to these villas is the plethora of space. Furnishings were very nice and the unit was in very good shape. Only a few cosmetic changes are needed. It has granite countertops in the bathroom with two sinks and plenty of vanity space and a large shower. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances and granite, too. Bedroom is approx. 12x12 with a very comfortable king bed. The internet connection was speedy and there are televisions in the living room and bedroom and both have DVD players. The only downside is their size. The living room TV is a 26” which by today’s standards is small. Unfortunately, it is built in to a cabinet and the owner may not want to change it out. The bedroom TV is small, too.
Both of our stays were in gold units. There were some units for sale that we viewed that were not updated to gold. I would not recommend these as some of the furnishings were rather tattered and the kitchen counters and appliances were not updated. I believe the best units are from buildings 19 to 23. They front the ocean and have the best views You can rent these units on the Ritz-Carlton and Outrigger sites. Additionally, some are rented by the owners on VRBO and flipkey. The resort has great restaurants and golf courses. I recommend Merriman’s for dinner and the Plantation course for golf (I have done separate reviews for these.) The Pineapple grill is also great as is the Plantation house on the golf course.
Kapalua is the premier resort on Maui if you are looking for a serene setting. However, if you are looking for a lot of action, you might be better off in Kaanapali. If you are looking for a Disneyland-esque experience you may prefer the ostentatious Grand Wailea and it’s equally inflated prices.

Room Tip: Villas 19 through 23 are the best for oceanfront. Get a "gold" villa.

Stayed 2 nights in room 522, Ridge Villa. We booked it as a 1 bedroom, but they actually gave us a 2 bedroom unit and didn't lock the extra bedroom. This unit has 3 bathrooms, it was only the wife and I. We didn't use the other side of the unit. This is definitely upscale with marble counter tops, marble bathrooms, double sinks, full kitchen, wireless internet that worked, incredible views.

The cons: Master bed was starting to sag in the spots where people sleep. They need a new mattress. What they really need is the new 7k Tempur-pedic beds. Also, the shower head was moldy, handle cover off, and there was some rust under the shower bar. The entire shower fixture needs to be replaced and the tub re-chalked. The carpet in the master bedroom is also starting to wear in the traffic area. There were water ants in the kitchen, need some Tero. Each bedroom has a wall unit for the AC, they work great but make noise. We mentioned all of this to the staff at check out. They listened but didn't make any notes. I'm not sure how they get feedback to the owners of all the problems.

Pros: The work out room at The Spa is nice, and you get to use it. They give you a parking pass which lets you park at The Spa, then you can walk down to Kapalua beach. This is a good reason to stay at the villas, along with all the other stuff I mentioned. The cons may have you wondering why you spent so much money, we stayed 2 nights at Eldorado and though it was better.

The over all "feel" of this area is upscale. If that's your style and you have the money, go for it.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are nice, but I don't think the view is that important.

We visited The Kapalua Villas from September 12th through the 22nd on our honeymoon. We rented an oceanfront gold one bedroom unit through Costco Travel and loved every minute of it. Our villa ended up being in the Bay Villas unit 35 with a beautiful oceanfront setting. It had a great layout with 1 and a half bathrooms, full kitchen, stacked washer/dryer and two porches. The whole area was quiet and relaxing but close enough to activities on the days we wanted to get out. The housekeeping staff did a great job with their two days of light service then a third of full cleaning. The front desk staff were happy and seemed truly excited to be working for Kapalua Villas.

We loved hanging out at the pool at the Kapalua Spa (access was included as part of the restort fee). We even made it to the Ritz's pools one days which is a great place to people watch. The location of our villa was perfect. We walked a couple minutes down the paved trail to Kapalua Bay for snorkeling, swimming & people watching. The beach right near our villa was always quiet and protected. D.T. Fleming beach was beautiful though the afternoon we went down there the wind picked up so we walked back to the Spa's pools.

Thank you to everyone at the Kapalua Villas for making our stay and honeymoon a wonderful experience. We are looking forward to making a return trip to Maui and the Kapalua Villas.

Room Tip: The Gold units are worth the upgrade. Bay Villas building 35 has amazing views and a great location...

Aloha and Mahalo,

You have defined our property and I will surely pass along your kind words to our team, they work very hard to create a sense of aloha and I am happy to hear that we accomplished that very important aspect of your experience.

Like yourselves, we receive many compliments about our gold villas, we are continuing to further refine these offerings so that every guest takes away similarly fond memories.

Sincerely,

We stayed in these villas twice in the early 90's and wanted to go back. The unit we were assigned in July was very spacious - 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, laundry area, kitchen, large living room, 2 story unit. It is an older property so the trees are lush but it is an older style of condos. Our unit looked like it was decorated by a Chinese grandma. The property is a bit of a drive to most of the places we wanted to go (Maalaea Harbor, Lahina). Since our flight was not until 10pm, we asked for a later check out, but they said we had to be out by 11am. I thought they could have offered us a bit more time or at least somewhere to clean up after going to the beach for the day. All in all a nice place, but we will probably choose another place to stay when we go back.

Aloha,

While it is great to hear that you returned to Maui after quite some time, I am sorry to hear that our resort did not meet all of your expectations.
While we do accentuate and would not change for the world, the fact that Kapalua is indeed a bit more remote than say the hustle and bustle of Kaanapali (closer to Lahaina) or Wailea (closer to Ma'a'laea), I can of course understand the desire and appeal for such locations as well, it's simply a matter of personal preference.
I am concerned about the decor you have noted and if you would not mind, I ask that you send me an email with your full name and the unit number so that I may review the villa and discuss any needed upgrades my my team and the property owner. While our program offers both standard and Gold level appointments, all have base criteria that must be met.
Late check outs are offered whenever possible and are most avaialble during slower occupancy periods. We determine such offers on checkout day once we see if the unit will be occupied later that afternoon, they are not guaranteed however as we are obliged to have each unit ready for check-in by 3PM.

I do hope that there were many fond memories from your vacation as well and while we may not encompass your specific needs for such a journey, please feel free to contact me directly if I may assist with your next visit to Maui, we have properties in each of the other two resorts previosuly noted as well.

Sincerely,

Anthony Freda

We have traveled to Maui many times, and have stayed in many locations across the island. Kapalua is our favorite spot, and the Kapalua Villas are the best! Kapalua has a number of different condo properties, with many operated independently or by local property managers. The Kapalua Villas management program is the best because of the personal service, friendly staff, concierge availability, and in the Gold program, housekeeping services and use of the Ritz-Carlton spa and pool.

This visit we stayed in a Gold Kapalua Ridge property -- the most private and comfortable spot yet! The Villa was a two story, one-bedroom, two-bath unit. The Villa had two lanais (decks/balconies) one off the master bedroom upstairs and the second off the living area downstairs. Highly upgraded with stainless steel appliances, granite counters, and designer finishes throughout. Fabulous views of Molokai and Honolua Bay, just a short walk to two pools, and a really short drive to Kapalua Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches on Maui.

Even though we have visited the islands many times (we figure we have actuallly "lived" there for about three years!) each visit is unique and delightful. The Kapalua Villas are no more expensive (less in many cases) than a hotel, but you have the space (~1200 sf),a full kitchen, the privacy, and the relaxation that just doesn't happen at a hotel. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Go for the Gold upgrade level to attain the full-service of housekeeping and use of the Ritz-Carlton...

Aloha,

A warm and sincere mahalo for your loyalty year over year, we feel truly proud when travelers choose us repeatedly in light of the various options avaialble throughout the island. Managing units in all three communities across the resort (Ridge, Bay, and Golf), we offer a wide variety of room configurations and views, though all are in close proximity to the activities, dining options, and world class beaches. I agree with you that the gold villas are in a class by themselves, providing the highest quality of comfort in a spacious unit, supported by our team of on site, full service professionals (Housekeeping, Maintenance, 24 hour Front Desk, and Bell). Follow up even with highly rated reviews is important to us and I ask that if you would not mind, please send me the unit number in which you enjoyed so much, I will pass along your compliments to the villa onwer and my team.

Stay well and stay in touch,

Sincerely,

Can't fault the apartments at Kapalua, they were well furnished, very comfortable and lovely and clean.

We had a fair view room and it was very peaceful with views of the golf course and the walk to the beach was only 10 mins away. We were hoping for an upgrade due to being on Honeymoon but weren't lucky enough! :-(

The restaurants on site were excellent, we ate both at the reception building (can't remember it's name) and Merrimans. The latter was pricey but worth it with gorgeous food, the first more reasonable and featuring Mahi mahi (Hawaiian fish and chips) and chicken kebabs etc.

For being guests at Kapaula we were allowed access to the Ritz Carlton pool and facilities. Well worth going to for service by your sun lounger and relaxing in style!

Apart from the weather going cloudy most days we loved our time here, but would recommend a hire car!
