“Honeymoon stay - perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

My wife and I came to Maui October 1-6 for our honeymoon and stayed in a garden-view suite at the Ritz. From the time we set foot on the property our expectations were exceeded. We're typically not people who need to be doted on at all times, but even we could get used to this lifestyle!

Upon check in, we were presented with fresh infused water (throughout the property each day a different flavor). We were instantly upgraded (though, I'm assuming the slow season had something to do with that) to the 9th floor of our building. The view was amazing. Garden-view in name, but we had sweeping views of the coast, the ocean, the beautiful grounds, and the Plantation Golf Course (which I played - amazing) all from our Lanai.

The grounds were in a perfect, meticulously kept condition. We spent most of our time during the day at the pool, where the staff did everything from set up our chairs with fresh towels to immediately drop by to take drink orders. My wife fell in love with the sparkling rose sangria by our last day. While I've seen occasional reviews saying the staff is groveling for tips, I see people genuinely trying to make your vacation the best it can be, and we appreciated everyone.

Though we didn't try the on-site restaurants, the room service pancakes, served with bacon and pineapple was out of this world. We were able to enjoy many drinks at the bars, and though the nearby Honolua Store was closed, it was very easy to get supplies in the local towns. Though I don't know who would want to ever leave the Kapalua Resort!

All in all, phenomenal stay. If (when) we come back to Maui, we will most definitely try to stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for anything facing the grounds. The rooms facing the pool don't offer a better view, even...

We were there for 5 days in October 2013 and had a great time. The facilities are in great condition, very clean and well maintained, and the staff are really helpful. The pools in particular are uncrowded, and they look after you well, there.

The only downer is the location of the hotel - it is windy there and it is the part of the island that gets more rain, so you can expect a couple of random downpours. I was ok with that as it was still warm, and they blew through pretty quickly, but still not quite what you would necessarily expect for Hawaii.

We arrived at the hotel and although they were quite busy (we were a very large group) the staff greeted us with a smile as they hurried to make sure that everyone was tended to. The room was great, very clean and everything arranged perfectly. The plenty of room to stretch out. The pool staff was amazing. The pool had 3 sections, one of them being the adults only section. The staff immediately escorted you to the area you wanted to be at and set up your lounge chair. Offering you a fresh towel, sunscreen, water, even wiping down your sunglasses. Overall it was an amazing experience.

We stayed here for 5 days March 2013 and couldn't have been happier. My wife and I were married here overlooking Lava Point. Lava Point is located near the picturesque Kapalua Bay Golf Course signature fifth tee. Needless to say the staff treated us like royalty. The hotel is located on the Northwest side of the island which we loved because of how private it was. 5 stars in every aspect!

The lobby check-in counter has been quite an experience, somehow it seems to be the female staff behind that counter that have been both unapologetic & quite rude on 2 occasions which spoilt my vacation. Overall, the stay of 3 nights has been trouble free. But we had an incident in which we wanted to change rooms & was advised they would get back to us later in the day. This never materialised, no call, no email.... Nothing. Until we returned later that evening after going out to surf, we had to be take the initiative to follow up. Even then, it was another female customer service member behind the check-in counter, when we informed her of our situation, no apology at all.... When we asked how come there was no apology, she responded with I apologised before... What a response.. I have never encountered anyone from a top tier hotel chain who would speak with such a tone. All I can say is when at that counter, set your expectations of customer service at rock bottom... Don't let it spoil your vacation!

Service is the best here at this hotel. From the valet attendants, front desk, pool staff, and restaurant staff, everyone did a great job with most going out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The cleaning staff does a great job as well with keeping the rooms clean and spotless everyday.

This resort is more for couples or adults in general. Our kids did enjoy the beach and pools but they found it quite tame. There wasn't much surf at the beach which may be nice for infants or toddlers. They have chairs near the beach you can check out. If you find the walk a little far, just take the golf cart shuttles. Be sure to stop by the Discovery center on the way down or up and check out Loco & Moco.

The dining facilities are superb, especially the breakfast buffet. There's a sushi place nearby that fills up quick so go early if you want to try it out.

Overall, this was a great stay and this is the place to go if you want to be pampered in Maui.

First off, the service and people were fantastic. They would come and do a turn down service at 10pm. The employees were always happy to assist and serve. Not once did I encounter an unhappy or annoyed employee. They always great with an "aloha" and try and go out of their way to assist. The room was big and luxurious. There was a kitchen table. Sofa/sofabed. A bedroom. Shower and bathtub and two balconies. The view wasn't that great, couldn't see the ocean. However, the location was secluded from the more crowded resorts on maui. There was no traffic or noisy people. Very peaceful. Did I mention you could see the Milky Way? And shooting stars. My favorite part was feeling safe and comfortable to go for a swim at 12am (pool is open 24/7) just to lie back and look at the stars. My only concern was that the bed in the room had an overslept in mattress which caused it to dip in the middle. Housing gave only two options: put a board under there or switch rooms. They stated all their mattresses are like that. It wasn't a huge deal because I was overly satisfied with my stay. In addition they were overly accommodating for my grandmother's 80th birthday. They gifted her with a beach bag and a light fleece. It was a very sweet gesture from the hotel, one that I have not seen before. Advice: if you can afford to spend a little extra and don't mind being a few minutes extra from the highway, stay here. It's peaceful and enchanting.
