“Quiet and Romantic Trip to Maui”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

This is not the place to stay if you are planning to drive all over the island and sight-see because it's pretty far out there. Being isolated on the north shore, this hotel provides a private feel that other hotels on the island can't provide. There is a large compound of the Hotel, Ritz Villas, and the Golf Course with ample services and restaurants BUT it is not crowded by other hotels and tour operators (a huge plus for a romantic anniversary getaway). Our trip was laid back and relaxed; a mix of local snorkeling, pool time, beach time, romantic walks on the bluffs/sand, and great food every night!! We did take one day the travel down the east coast of Maui and that was enough for us.
Very happy with the hotel and the surrounding area.

We stayed at the Ritz -Carleton in Kapalua for 4 days in early March. This was our third time there in 10 years and we had a wonderful time. This Hotel, without question, is one of the most beautiful places we've ever stayed. The setting is spectacular with lush natural beauty everywhere. The beach, the rocky shoreline and views of the surrounding islands make this location ideal for taking photos. The restaurants, especially the one by the beach, have spectacular views of the ocean. The staff, the food, the pool , the spa were all first class and what you expect from The Ritz -Carlton. If the weather is good, which it was for us, you'll be hard pressed to find a more beautiful setting anywhere.

Room Tip: We stayed in a ground floor sweet with a hammock just outside our door and easy access to the pool.

We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua for 4 days in late February (after 6 days in Oahu). The hotel is beautiful, set in wonderful grounds, with a fantastic pool, nice beach, very personable service, a comfy bed in a spacious room. No complaints with the property itself.....but the weather was mostly overcast, very windy and rainy. Every day we left for the soutwest side of the island (Wailua) 1 hour drive away for sunny weather and great beaches. Kapalua may have sunnier weather at other times of the year, but our experience in February was not great. I would probably opt to stay at the Four Seasons in Wailea next time....or come back to the Ritz at a better time of year. But the property itself deserves an Excellent rating. We also enjoyed dining at "Kai" and "The Banyan Tree".

We stayed at the Ritz Kapalua for a portion of our January trip to Maui. The location was ideal - less developed than other parts of the island, but still close to so many great beaches and restaurants. The grounds were impeccably maintained, the rooms and pool were beautiful and relaxing, and the spa was fantastic. The food available for breakfast and lunch (pool-side dining) was standard and a bit over-priced, but we found this to be consistent with most resorts on the island. The beach was nice, but not as nice as those available near Wailea. Overall, the Ritz Kapalua was a wonderful resort with a great location!

This is a top notch resort and I'm baffled as to why anyone would give it less than five stars! Our every want or need was tended to and each and every employee strived to make our stay perfect. It is away from any commercial area and itis truly a haven. The pool area is large and has several areas to meet everyone's needs. There is a wonderful coastal trail that runs behind the resort and leads you along a beautiful path. The beach is a short walk behind the resort and down a path, but it isn't immediately behind the Ritz, which was fine for us. We walked down there several times, maybe a five minute walk. There is an Ambassadors of the Environment program that offers many exceptional trail hikes, water trips and kids' activities during your stay. We loved our time at the Ritz and would love to return in the future.

This was the first time that my wife and I stayed in the Kapalua area. While we truly enjoyed the resort, it is a fairly "breezy" area (and at times, incredibly windy). This hotel obviously has no control over the weather and does everything in their power to serve each guest as a family member.

ROOM
Based on my Marriott level, we were upgraded to a one bedroom/living room suite. Very clean, neat and beautiful. For just the two of us, it was a little much, but we definitely were not going to complain!

There was a prior post about upgrading to an oceanfront room. My suggestion is that you don't. The hotel is a considerable length away from the beach, and in my opinion, not worth the extra $$'s. Our room was technically a resort view, but we had a nice partial view of the ocean as well.

BED
Nice and soft although my wife found the pillows to be tough on her neck. I personally had no problems with them.

SERVICE
At check in, we were immediately greeted by the front desk staff. Very friendly and speedy with getting us our room.

During our stay, we ordered room service, which was timely and tastey. Without even asking, they provided two sets of plates, silverware, water, etc. assuming that my wife and I were going to share (which we did). Nice touch.

We also had drinks and appetizers at the pool bar. Service was excellent, food was good, although a little high in price (but this is to be expected at a resort).

GYM
Gym was excellent. They had excellent equipment and was always clean. More than enough treadmill and ecliptical machines. Free weights were also available.

BEACH
The closest beach is pretty choppy, and at least during our stay, not good for swimming. I believe there is a different beach that is more kid/swimmer friendly, but we never had time to see it.

POOL
The Ritz had a very nice three-tiered pool. No umbrellas (probably because of the wind), but very still beautiful. Bar/food service was excellent as well.

RESORT
Overall, we had a great time. This resort probably could use some "sprucing up", but the Ritz team does everything to make you feel comfortable.

Kaanapali is about three miles away, so if you stay at this resort, you will need a car.

For a great view (and food) during dinner, go to Merrimans. Honolua General Store has amazing biscuits and gravy for breakfast.

We just finished 10 days in a suite at the Ritz Kapalua with Club Lounge access. This is our 8th stay at the Ritz and our 5th on the Club level. As usual, the room was great. Decor was great. Housekeeping was great. It is so refreshing that EVERY housekeeper says "aloha" each time you walk by - always with a smile.

Enough on the room.

Now for the BEST - the staff. The Club Level staff have the entire guest experiene mastered. It all starts with the manager, Leslie. She is perfcect for the job and does is so well it would be a shame if she were to get promoted. I always kid with the GM that if he promotes Leslie, he needs to make her still work the lounge when I visit. Her team combines professionalism with a friendly attitude. It is such a treat to have them remember your favorite drink or snack or some other nuance - each time we come back! I would recommend anyone visiting the Ritz pay the extra for The Club.

The Guest Services and Concierge teams are on par with The Club. Angela's Guest Services Team greets us by name now. The concierge staff is always hustling, yet always have time to chat when we walk by. Look for Cynthia and Kristine. All the folks are good, but those two are our favorite.

Enjoy the live music and lobby lounge. The beach at The Ritz is great. Pool is fantastic. Good for families or those without kids. Adult pool is fantastic. Spa services are nice. My wife got a cut and color and the price was very fair. And the outcome was fabulous.

Finally, if you don't want to pay for the breakfast buffet, go to the coffee shop and get the sweet rolls. They are made locally by the wife of one of the staff. They are great and made with true Aloha spirit. Ask them which sweet rolls are made by Victoria.

Ritz does not have a crowded feel, even when sold out. This is UNLIKE the Wailea resorts where you can't get a pool chair unless you go down and throw a book on it at 6:00 a.m. So, stay at The Ritz.

Enjoy Maui and The Ritz !

Aloha

Room Tip: Get the Club level. Terrace view is fine. Look for the packages on the web site or go through Cost...
