“Use another vendor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

I understand everyone is on Island time until they waste your precious vacation time. I'm really tired of vendors telling you to show up at a certain time as did Blue Caribe and then not be prepared to have a large group wait needlessly for an hour.

Safety: The van is not safe. The lights had a short and no headlights on a one way muddy trail is not any fun. When we got back we weren't allowed to get off but drive round the neighborhood looking for the manager who was at her home with the keys. Not fun. It was funny though that the driver was pointing out all their disabled vans on the side of the road as we drove by.

This is a classic example of how complete ineptitude can ruin an otherwise magical pristine experience with the bio bay

“Ask for Rebecca”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

We rented snorkeling gear from here . Rebecca was helping us and she was very friendly and offered help . She was friendly and asked guided us to spots if most viewing of fishes . The kids did mange to a few.
It is a tiny place and warm people. They do take snorkeling guided tours and also rent out kayaks . We did not have a lot of time so just rented some gear .

“Great biobay tour!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

We were in Vieques for Christmas week so a lot of the tour companies were sold out and we booked with Blue Caribe. After reading the reviews on here we were very nervous but the woman who ran our hotel told us not to worry, that it was a reputable company that had been around for many years and she was right, we ended up having a great time!

There were 14 of us on the tour, 6 of whom were part of my family, including a 10 year-old and a 12 year-old. It was set for 8:30 PM and we left just about on-time after a quick briefing and a chance to stow our car keys in the office. The van was just fine - actually in better shape than most cars I saw on the road - and the road was really more full of mud than extremely bumpy. Our kayaks, paddles, life preservers, and glow sticks all worked perfectly. Our tour guide Gene was really wonderful - just about the perfect guide. He was polite (both to us as well as other cars and tour companies), his English was great, he knew a lot of information about the bay and the protozoan that creates the luminescence, he was patient, had a sense of humor, and finally he clearly loved the nature he was showing us. We had checked the moon schedule before booking the trip so we knew we should have good viewing and it was absolutely spectacular - like nothing I have seen before! My favorite part was seeing the glowing fish swimming under the water, although having the glowing water drip down my arm was pretty amazing too.

Overall I have the feeling that the other reviews here are skewed towards people who had bad experiences which is why I felt I should write this. Don't be afraid to go with Blue Caribe - they are a great company to use to tour the bio bay.

“Horrible experience with third rate scam artists”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Make sure you read the other reviews with this theme. We booked a 9pm mew moon bio bay tour with Blue Caribe. The guide, Vazquez, spoke no English. Thank god a member of our party is fluent or we would have been clueless. The kayaks are stored in a locked trailer at the bay. We got out there (in their leaky van) and Vasquez did not have the key. He did not have a cell phone. My radar was pinging "this is not good" and our party of 4 plus two lovely people from Vermont demanded we be taken back to town.
Rebecca's husband showed up with the keys at 10 but we were all so tired by then we just wanted our money back. At midnight, with the police involved, we still did not get our money back.
We have very reluctantly agreed to go out with them tonight at 7 pm. Will get back with you on this very very shady, unprofessional scam.
Rebecca claimed Vazquez, the guide is "certified." If you go, get everything in writing and demand to see the certification. At least if you pay by credit card and get scammed you can cancel payment.
HORRIBLE experience!

“Should have been great, but......”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

We walked in off the main street in Esperanza and booked the night kayak trip out to Mosquito Bay for the following night. They were still booking for that night but not for the following night as the moon would be full and the bioluminescence would not be visible. Well, they shouldn't have taken our group out either, because the moon was almost full when we went. Two ladies who had taken the same trip last year said there was no comparison between their experience this year with last year. Last year they saw fish swimming in the water outlined with blue lights. Our experience was agitating our hands wildly in the water and barely seeing any of the blue glow. Disappointing. For $40 for each of us, all we came away with were muddy feet and clothes and a bunch of bug bites. The only way I would book with this company again would be if I was assured that I would get a refund if it turned out to be another moon-filled night. I can't fault the employees--they were pleasant and actually a lot of fun.
