This is how we had our Motorcycle Diaries experience. No, we didn't drive 5,000miles of South America in 4 months. We rode about 20miles in 24hrs.
And we were on a scooter (with dorky helmets).
But you know what? This is the only way to really explore the beautiful Puerto Rican island of Vieques. And we have to thank Mr. JJ of the Fun Brothers Hut.
The Fun Brothers Hut isn't in a tropical thatched roof hut, but in a recycled sea container, and it totally works. Out of this container/building JJ has all sorts of FUN to dispense to the masses: snorkels, kayaks, and of course, scooters.
For $50, you can have your run of the island for 24hrs. So, you can zip around the town of Esperanza and hit up some hidden culinary gyms, but the real jewel to hunt for: the beaches of Vieques.
Yeah, the ride might be more comfortable by renting a car, but there is nothing like taking on the roads in the open and with two wheels. A scooter can also afford you access to some places just not passable with its 4-wheeled counterpart (yeah, there are some muddy, steep, & rocky roads on Vieques. JJ also says you can "bush whack", but we didn't try that.)
But this also brings me to another huge PLUS to the Fun Brothers Hut: JJ. This guy was super informative, nice, and funny.
So yes, if you want to be fuel efficient, explore hard to find places of the island, have your hair blow in the wind, and live your own Motorcycle Diary experience, you should drop by the Fun Brothers Hut.
