“Big, lovely and met expectations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2012

Walked through the hotel grounds last year so decided to give this hotel a try this year.

Certainly well placed in the resort; near the shops and a short walk to the beach at Maspalomas.

Very friendly and attentive staff. Class cava on arrival and cases taken to room. We had read that the higher the room the better so heart sank as allocated a room on the ground floor (-1). But, this was not a problem; in fact our ground floor room, with a patio and not a balcony as the rooms above, was larger. Had a view of lawn, gardens and tennis courts but it was secluded and location was absolutely fine. The room however was a bit dated and a tad gloomy but the bed was fine and comfy. Room safe extra. Bathroom excellent with bath and separate shower and all kept spotless by housekeeping.

The hotel is divided into 7 patios. Ours was a 3 to 4 minute walk from the reception / restaurants but is was great to get away from the crowds in the central area.

The food: breakfast was very good, all the usual fare. Had to wait to be seated outside but went slightly later (9.30) to avoid the main rush. Were half board and the evening self service (except for drinks, orders to the waiter) had a theme each night (Italian; oriental; canarian) and there was still the staples too. Overall quite impressed but did get a bit repetitive by day 7. But after a meal, why no coffee? and finished service at 9.30pm. If a longer stay would have visited the other three restaurants and taken advantage of their offer of 15 euro extra per person if HB.

Pools: a number of pools, all very clean with showers dotted around. Often difficult to find a sunbed that was actually in the sun so most days went to the fabulous beach, which is now sandy again after last years erosion. (The hotel has my pet hate, a false beach of gravel, but that's just personal taste I suppose).

Hotel gyms are a bit hit and miss. This one was fine except no tread mill; only rower and cross trainer for aerobic. Always plenty of towels.

Evening entertainment; not our thing but from what we did see quite good. The one night we decided to go to the brasserie/disco it was closed (probably because Sunday but nothing to say it would be closed).

Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the central 'patio' quieter. Ground floor rooms larger.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for all your comments. They are very helpful as they make us improve our services in our Hotel Costa Meloneras.

There are two bars with two different atmospheres; piano or live music, where you can have a coffee after dinner. There are four pools and two solariums, therefore many sunny areas but also shady areas due to the great number of palms that there are in the hotel.
We have two different gyms: the one you are making reference to, equipped with machines to do some exercises and another one located in the Wellness Center with a more modern equipment, instructor and classes like spinning, pilates or stretching.

We are looking forward to welcoming you again in our lovely resort and for any further information our Public Relations department is always at your disposal.

Best regards,
The management

This hotel was great but there are a few things you need to know before you go.
1. 95% of the guests were 60+.
2. Yes, the gardens are lovely, but if you're interested in sunbathing the trees cover most of the grounds so there isn't much sun.
3. food is good but there's room for improvement.
4.room was very disappointing. not 5*
5. pools were amazing but FREZZING! they need to warm it!
6. spa is stunning, worth going to- message okay, not amazing

everything else you'd be able to see from other peoples reviews. But these are the things that stood out. If you have already booked, then let's just hope that they've cut some of the trees down!

Dear guest,
Thank you very much for your comments. They are very helpful, as they make us know your opinion and have a feedback of your experience in Costa Meloneras.
There are five pools and two solariums, therefore many sunny areas but also shady areas due to the great number of palms that there are in the hotel. All pools are heated except the Lago Pool (Infinity pool).
As a 4* superior hotel, we do our utmost to give the best service to our guests. We hope to see you again in Costa Meloneras and ask you to contact the Public Relations department for any comment or suggestion you might have. We would be very pleased to assist you and make your stay as nice as possible.

this hotel is really great in the area: splendid garden and pools, location is quiet yet again nearest possible to the walking promenade, the beach and dunes, bus stop, shops and bars of Maspalomas.
Very friendly staff and really good food (breakfast as well as dinner).

But what I can simply not understand for this four star hotel is that some basic stuff is not available or you have to pay extra:
- safe has to be paid for
- no coffee or tea making facilities in the room, no free drinking water
- have to pay 1 € when you want to have the pool towel exchanged ??? Sorry, but the argumentation that it is for the environment's sake is ridiculous. When you care for the environment don't start a hotel, don't leave all lights on in the evening, don't run a hotel with four pools..... A one time change of pool towel per day is really basic.
- fresh fruit juice at breakfast has to be paid for, but you can have cava for free....

I would really give a top score to this hotel only if I didn't feel being treated as a bag of money where one tries to get some more out of it.

Hotel grounds are absolutely stunning with beautiful pools and gardens, but the sheer size of the place is makes it difficult to feel any personal connection.
As other reviewers have written, the rooms are much in need of updating, the room we were in was very clean but had clearly suffered from years of wear and tear - significantly below 4 star.
The standard dining rooms were also a disappointment, very large rooms, food quality reasonable, but not at all relaxing or enjoyable - very much the feel of being in a food machine/factory - again, just not special or 4 star.
The staff were very hard working and polite. The spa was also excellent.

Visited this hotel 2 years ago for our honeymoon which was excellent. This time however was not as good, they kept 1 of the restaurants closed which caused a little congestion at mealtimes due to the 1136 rooms and the hotel being pretty full. Also the room was a little tired the settee in the room was stained so we covered it with a sheet. We have also never experienced so many rude guests EVER!!! . The food is still good but the only area which has deteriated is the standard of the fish it could have been better,we felt that they were cheap cuts.On the positive side the staff were exceptional as usual and the pools and gardens were very clean and impressive, overall a lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Don't settle for the first room they offer you, higher is better.

fantastic amenities
superb infinity pool
helpful staff
Ambassador restaurant very classy and beautiful food
immaculate cleanliness throughout
sun deck full by 9.00
do not leave your towel on an unoccupied sunlounger before 10.00 ~ they will be removed
not sure why they charge 2 euros for orange juice at breakfast or 1 euro to change your towel ~ seems very petty especially bearing in mind the basic cost of the hotel
the gourmet a la carte deal is actually more expensive than the pay as you go version unless you order the most expensive starter/main/desert every time
there are in excess of 1000 sun loungers ; ALL ARE IN SHADE AT LEAST 50% OF THE DAY [apart from the sun deck]~ the majority 70 - 80% of the time
for some clients this will be good for some it will not !

This hotel is stunning in public areas! Staff are nice, but some are pressure sales!,, booked a week here! First impression beautiful! Room we were in tired and in need of updating, quite depressing really if I am honest, but you don't holiday in your room. I think the biggest shock was 12 euros a day to park you car at the hotel!!!! This was extrusion too me, because you had to walk at least a mile or more if you could find a parking space on the road. The pool bar staff pestered you to buy expensive drinks all day regardless if you were sunbathing or sleeping they would stand by you repeating there sales patter. The night entertainment is a bit tacky but ok.
The food is excellent! The variety is fantastic and plenty of it! You would not go hungry at the buffet breakfast, can't comment on the evening meal, but if the breakfast is anything to go by it will be similar!
Only for the hidden costs it would have been a great holiday! You don't plan to pay an extra £100 for parking a car or unto £3 to £6 extra per pillow per night, or extra for normal inclusions on a holiday. Drinks are pricey 4 euros a beer, 5.10 for a cup of tea, in fact most drinks are 5 euros plus!
It also says can't reserve sunbeds, but that is not true, most of the best beds reserved all day and not used either.
Well worth a stay but be prepared to pay for loads of hidden extras and top prices for drinks!
Great meals at la pampla grill in the verarrado shopping centre near the hotel, and the staff are great!
