“Great choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

Having stayed at the Maspalomas Princess (great when Daughter was younger, now 11) 17 times, New Year there is fantastic, the Lopesan Villa Del Conde twice (fantastic) and the Lopesan Costa Meloneras twice (also fantastic) we thought we would try the Baobab, we had been in there a few times and friends recommended it so we booked it. Half Board for my Wife, Daughter and myself with a pool view. What a fantastic week we had, great location, beautiful room, wonderful view over the pools (well some of them !!), across the dunes to the sea and the Riu Princess at the end of the dunes. Good shop, food was excellent with quality every sitting, even Cava every breakfast and every dinner sitting !! Lovely gardens, great pools although a bit cold (for us 2 oldies !!) in February and the hotel itself is tastefully laid out, great furnishings and well decorated. Good bars, entertainment was entertaining and enjoyed it, good service around the pools every day and lots of space without the need to put towels out early to get a sun lounger. Champagne Sangria is very refreshing around 2 o'clock and 2 of them ensures you sleep well during the sunbathing hours in the afternoon !! Go there as a Family, as a couple or i guess on your own, good atmosphere with decent people. Will be back in May and August, thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Doesn't have a Spa but you can use the other Lopesan facilities (which are amazing), there is a...

We just returned from a relaxing week in Lopesan Baobab Resort. Hotel has great position in the Meloneras area, next to the Maspalomas dunes, near the sea and the promenade. Although it is a pretty large property, it never felt crowded. Outdoor space is wide and beautiful, lush vegetation, big and various pools (some of them heated, at stated temperatures)... The whole property is recreating atmosphere of Africa and at some points it was overdone (like huge plastic elephants and giraffes, jungle sounds at the entrance), but overall it seemed fun to us more than anything else.
We especially liked outdoor dining at the romantic terrace surrounded by water. Food was excellent, huge variety for both breakfast and dinner.
In general, the hotel is suitable for couples and at the same time very family oriented (as I mentioned, it's a pretty big place...)
Our room was on the 4th floor overlooking the pools, sea and the mountains, which was nice, modern and spacious, especially the bathroom. The views were just stunning. My recommendation would be to state in advance what is important to you in the choice of room, and the staff will try their best to accommodate your wishes. Since the personnel is very professional and efficient, nothing ever had to be asked twice.
The only flaw was the super-slow free wireless internet.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much.

The hotel was gorgeous - really special when you pulled up - the kind where you don't want anyone else to get off the coach and everyone goes wow when you pull up! we spent our honeymoon here in October 2012 and it was beautiful, rooms were really clean and modern, shower was to die for and it was lovely. The food was a massive canteen but it was gorgeous and the dessert trolley was massive and different every day. There was alot of Russian and Germans at the start of our holiday but the Brits soon landed and lowered the tone to make it a bit noisier and more pleasant (everyone queued for food rather than pushing in). The staff were awesome and made the holiday for us - the children are looked after by a team that get all the adults watching as they are really so good! It was the most relaxing 10 days ever, but we have to admit we were bored at nights when we wanted a lively pub atmosphere, there is nothing in a 3 mile radius at least, but its peaceful yet good shopping very locally. We put drinks on room key all the time and dreaded the bill after having cocktails and drinks all day and night and it was on average only £30 per day, very impressed! It was lovely, but beware the food in the local area, no matter how much you pay is the same quality as the hotel, so don't waste your money - just eat in the hotel :-) Awesome and great staff, so lovely but just a little quiet at night that's all.

Stopped visiting Gran Canaria around 6yrs ago after getting fed up with constant time share hassle but after hearing and then reading of this hotel decided to return.
From the moment of entering the door you feel you are entering somewhere special, the decor and build quality of this hotel is quite stunning. You do feel as though you are in Africa, staff dressed in safari wear contribute to this. The designer of this hotel really went to town to create a fantastic place, the swimming pools are well laid out and although children play happily you can always find a quiet corner. The bars are good and prices for drinks are no dearer than outside, the hotel.staff are very friendly, food is good although a bit repetitive.
Surprised to find a themed hotel here more Las Vegas or Disney but great credit must go to them for trying to differ from the normal 4/5 star layout., the danger could have been to make it a little tacky but this has been avoided.
We shall return more for the hotel than the resort as it is typical of many Spanish resorts although there are some good brand name shops. Personally we did not venture far as the hotel gave us what we wanted, entertainment was okay.
Go visit, I do not think it will disappoint.

Room Tip: Ask for sunny side as some rooms are on shade.

just come back stayed from the 2 to the 9 of march and yes the hotel is lovely and the rooms are too beds are comfortable and the bathroom is excellent my only but is the rooms are dimly lit and theres no mirror .the bathroom has lighting but still terrible and you are too low if you try sitting down, and personally hate using my ghds next to a sink.our room was kept lovely and clean no negatives .but paying for safe ,thats a new one on me , also no i dont want to watch tv all day or night on holiday but the only english channels were cnn and sky news .I only mention this because the first half of the holiday we had really bad weather the way the hotel has been designed isnt designed for this not only is there nowhere to relax day or night as everwhere is so windy and i mean windy coming from all directions. nevertheless maybe we were just so unlucky ,because again the hotel is beautifull the staff were really lovely i took their names especialy but ive missplaced them , reoedomember one her name was eva and she was really great and helpfull as all at reception staff . all i can say again the hotel is lovely and i enjoyed my stay i was just let down with the weather and when the sun did eventually come out it was glorious. The food was lovely and plentiful, the deserts well i have no waistline at the moment. the area around the hotel is sofisticated great designer shops great for window shopping for me alas dont have that sort of momey to buy boohoo but there is a mango and got alovely jacket. also a nice little walk to the beach really nice broadwalk enough restaurants i myself would of liked a few more nice bars to go to,the one we did go to was nice but quiet .ended going to ingles for 5euros where there was more life .

Room Tip: had a standard room which was lovely i think whatever room you have they are all dimly lit i would o...

Stayed at this hotel 2 to 9 March 2013. First impressions are that this place is breathtaking. The entrance is stunning as are the many pool areas and gardens. Our room was a standard twin in block 2, lovely room, when we eventually found it. Very clean, brilliant shower, comfortable beds etc although I was disappointed to have to pay for the room safe, 17.50 euros for the week. As a five star hotel, this should have been included in the price. Unfortunately, the weather at the start off the holiday was terrible, there was a huge storm, high winds and the first rain for 2 years. The corridors acted as wind tunnels as they are all open to the elements. The weather did improve however and then this wasn't a problem. The food was excellent at breakfast and ok for dinner. You can sit where you please, inside or out. The only thing that annoyed us during our meals were the screaming children, why can't parents take them outside, and also stop them running around the tables as people are back and fore the buffet with plates full of food.

The area of Meloneras is nice, lots of very pricey shops but also supermarkets and perfumeries where prices are much more affordable. We walked along the sand dunes to Playa de Ingles, a long walk but very pleasant in the sun. Went to Puerto Mogan, lovely place, busy on a Friday when it's market day.

Overall, we had a brilliant stay at this lovely hotel and will return later this year.

Room Tip: We emailed the hotel before arrival asking for high, quiet room and they obliged.

Lopesan Baobab hotel is rated 5 * but my wife and I have just returned from a 10 day holiday. first impression of the hotel is confusing as the owners have themed it around Africa and all they have managed to do is make it look like an unfinished building site. In addition the architects have created a massive wind tunnel because every corridor has an open or partially roof and it just draws the wind into it. Also because of the theme (Africa) all of the internal decor is very dark, and makes it depressing in my opinion.
The room was similarly dark but spacious and well equipped except NO TEA COFFEE MAKING FACILITY and every self respecting English man woman needs a tea or coffee either last thing at night or first thing in a morning.
The room cleaning was well below what i would expect from a 5* hotel, i.e. wash basin area only cleaned occasionally floors not swept daily, glasses left out dirty from late night night caps.
Food was good but nothing special.and repetitive. Staff in the main were very friendly and helpful.
The outside in the garden/pool areas was excellent. The evening entertainment in the hotel was very poor and amateurish. So overall we had an ok holiday but I wouldn't return to this hotel.
