“Beautiful hotel / Pool / Gardens with a few minor issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2010

Firstly don't expect a 5 star hotel in the Canaries to offer the same level of service as New York / London , thats simply unrealistic , 5 star hotels in Canaries are the equivalent of 4 star elsewhere . That said the hotel and grounds / pool areas were beautiful , 5 seperate pools ranging from enormous to standard size , loads of sun beds even the during kids holiday period . The hotel is designed in the style of a spanish village with 'blocks' all different sizes / colour/design however all connected by corridors to the rear of the bulidings . We booked a standard room ( I called prior to arrival to request a quiet room) and we were allocated a top floor room in E block with great views over the hotel and sea so don't bother paying extra for a SV room . Room was very nice with seperate dressing room and shower , noise was not a problem . Staff were very friendly . Now the negatives , the hotel was a maze , we were still getting lost after a week , lifts / stairs take u to various boiler rooms / dead ends, designed by a lunatic . Breakfast was no more then OK with the restaurant dark and gloomy . Minor issue was that bizarely there are no drawers in the hotel room so nowhere to store personal stuff . Some balconys lack privacy while others are closed in . There was NO drinks service around the pool so everytime you wanted a drink u had to walk miles to the one bar serving all pools , very odd given the drinks mark up that they don't offer a drinks service . They seemed to do everything possible to stop people using the Main Pool restaurant by blocking all entrances bar one , Entertainment was the normal mediocre . If u turn right along the prominade a 15 min walk gets u to a few bars / restaurants , if u turn left a 15 min walk get you to the main 'faro' centre with loads of decent restaurants , the '19th hole' does a very good ' irish stew' .That said its a very good hotel and u won't go far wrong if you choose it for your holidays however on balance i think i prefered the sister hotel nearer the light house .

Sorry about this short review but just wrote a long one and lost it! Beautiful hotel, inside and out, lovely spacious rooms, plenty sunbeds, lots of pools. By one pool had sand for the kids! Wonderful albeit expensive spa, with professional staff. Hotel let down in dining, food was average at dinner, organisation of food areas meant no room to move around restaurant to get food. Food was in one place one day and another pace another day. Highly annoying if you are an older guest or disabled. Not relaxing at dinner. Breakfast was fne good choice of hot and cold.
Maid service was not so good, maids woke us up by chatting outside room or banging doors. Room cleanied really well first day, missing towels, dead insects left on baclony and dirty bedroom floor, not five star service! Was cleaned perfectly day before we left though! wonder why!
Staff seems indifferent until you tipped, especially some waiting staff in the evenings serving drinks, one older female staff only smiled when we tipped her. Wasnt so impressed with the quality of staff, reception staff professional.
if you want to meet others and enjoy yourself with fellow guest, it probably wont happen here. Spanish guests were most miserable. If you are looking for a beautiful hotel with ok service, then come here bed and breakfast and go out for dinner. Theytmust improve their service, I dont know how it is rated five star, probably because of the building i guess.

Upon our arrival we were met by the bellboy who collected and delivered our luggage to our room, the reception area is outstanding and the staff were excellent with all our queries of which there were very few.
Our room was on the ground floor 10 metres from the beach/pool area, the pools are beautiful and well kept. The room was huge and had all the necessary amenities.
We stayed H/B and found the restaurant very clean, with loads of different varieties of food on offer, which was all freshly cooked.
I would definitely stay here again and would consider using the Lopesan group for another holiday. *****

I stayed at this hotel for a week in May with my husband and thought it was brilliant. It's large but the clever village-like design stops it from being impersonal. The grounds are lovely with an excellent selection of pools and plenty of sun-loungers. The public areas are well presented and the the hotel lobby is stunning (a nice first impression of the hotel). Breakfast was one of the best we've ever had with an excellent selection of food and fresh juices. There are a few local restaurants but we didn't think they were that great so we decided to try the evening buffet having been impressed with breakfast. We were glad that we did because again we felt that the standard was good and it was better value than the local restaurants. The hotel staff were very helpful and every time they passed made a point of saying hello. The room was large, clean and modern with a comfortable bed and impressive walk-in wardrobe. I would struggle to find many negative points other than the sound-proofing which other reviewers have mentioned. You really can hear everything from the rooms above and below but we didn't find that it kept us awake at night. Two other minor frustrations were the cost of WIFI (we would expect this to at least be available free of charge in the lobby) and the Thalasso experience at €35. The Spa is lovely but in a five star hotel I would expect an indoor pool, steam room and sauna to be part of the basic facilities. In summary I would certainly recommend the hotel and look forward to going back in the future.

If your considering this hotel it is worth it. This is my second trip in 6 months and I am fussy about hotels (see my other contributions to tripadvisor)
- location is seafront next to prom so lovely for walks in morning / evening and beside nice shops
- I did not eat dinner in hotel, we went to local restaurants all nearby (within 15 min walk at most), food was very good. Breakfast at hotel was lovely as was lunch (lunch costs about 8-10 euro pp which is good value)
- Facilities are excellant with 6 pools all well kept and loads of loungers
- Rooms are large, nice beds and a walk in wardrobe which is great as you can keep room uncluttered.
- Hotel was built in 2007 so is new, modern, clean. Hotel is large but never feels too big
- Staff are lovely, not Four Seasons trained but certainly very nice and helpful.
- Spa is one of the best i have ever been to. Its a nice option if there is an overcast day (did not use on this stay as weather was sunny all the time)
- Entertainment was good, we came back everynight at 10.15 and relaxed with cocktails in the terrace listening to the music provided with was nice (standard of singers was varied!)
- Overall I rate this hotel very highly and it has great rates if you book directly with the hotel as we did. We flew from Dublin with Aer Lingus, Hotel had a private transfer organised (48 euro - worth it) and we were at our rooms within 40 mins of landing!
A previous reviewer mentioned noise levels in the rooms. The rooms have tiled floors and most rooms have sofa beds so about 11 most nights people unfold the sofa beds and this makes a little noise, it lasts for a few minutes so I cant see how this is a major issue, again in the morning there is a little noise but hotel is very quiet until 9am.
Enjoy!

I went to Maspalomas in December 2009 and I chose Villa del Conde because of the SPA and the location. First of all, Maspalomas is in the south part of the island where the weather is always sunny in comparison to Las Palmas (north of the island where you land) - ok, it is very windy but this is a trait of all the Canarian islands; second, the resort has a spectacular ocean view and its SPA has private suites with Jacuzzi with private ocean view

Key benefits:
- the service of a boutique hotel in a big resort
- the quiet of a small place (the hotels has 4 small swimming pools, one of them has sands and palms for your kids; this means that people can evenly distribute)
- food is very good; there are 3 restaurants and the breakfast serves all tastes
- the SPA is a chef d'oevure of the architecture and has top service (in terms of masseuses, cleanliness, kindness); the SPA is half in the open air thanks to very mild temperature. It is on the ocean, there are 4 private suites where you can get massages and you can even book it for a midnight jacuzzi treatment

Sport
they offer acitivties such as tai chi, etc; there are tennis court but i think that running on the promenade with ocean view is probably the best way to enjoy the landscape

Recommendation:
- alone or couple
- young families

I have just returned from visiting this hotel with 3 girlfriends for a nice relaxing break. We decided to book a junior suite as the rooms looked bigger and nicer. However, the suites are where many of the families stay, and this, coupled with the fact that the walls and ceilings are paper thin, made for a very noisy experience. The first night I was awoken at 3.30am to the sound of crying babies. At 7.30am all the children above, below and around me were up and running around, sofabeds and tables were being moved around the rooms, and there was so much noise I felt like I was trying to sleep in Grand Central Station. Once the families headed off to breakfast at 8.30ish the cleaners moved in and started their daily rounds of furniture moving. Various trips to reception did nothing to enable us to move, as apparently there are no areas of the hotel where it is adults only, and I can't say reception were too concerned about my lack of sleep. The standard of soundproofing for a 5 star hotel was appalling, this hotel is obviously a product of the building boom.
In fairness, many other guests told me their rooms were quiet, but my advice is this: stay away from the suites unless you are a family with children.
While appreciating that this hotel does cater to families too, with 6 pool areas to chose from, it would make sense for the hotel to keep one pool area "adult only", as many hotels of this calibre do.
On top of this, when we arrived for breakfast one morning at 7 minutes before 11am (the good news is that breakfast is served until 11), we were sent to various tables but our anything-but-friendly waiter refused to set a table for us, telling us breakfast was finished. Again, disgraceful behaviour for an alleged 5 star hotel.
Will I be returning - Not a chance!!!
