Lovely accommodations, great service and amazing pizza close by...run by a super sweet couple who know all about the area - great surf tips - and were always spot on. Loved this place.

Ben & Brigitte

P.S. I'm a slightly better surfer. Thank you!

This was exactly as I had hoped. Liz and Scott are dialed in. They helped me with the logistics of getting to the Casita (I took a shuttle) and arranged for a shuttle back to Managua. This made logistics easy and it was a load off my mind. The Casita is very clean and comfortable; I spent a lot of time in the Hammock. I got a ride to and from the beach everyday - again...easy logistics which allows one to focus on the fun! I cooked my own food with some of the vegetable from the garden every day...delicious! Overall this was an amazing time and I am so thankful to Scott and Liz for providing such a fantastic set-up...if you want a comfortable casita with access to beautiful uncrowded beaches and easy logistics - this is your place. Thank you so much Rancho Cecilia.

Scott and Liz have an amazing set-up a couple minutes drive from the Beach- it is walkable but they were always keen to run us out to the beach- even for a dawn surf session on Christmas day!

They are so tuned into the local spots and conditions that if you are trying to find the best waves- all you have to do is get in the truck!

The cabin is super comfortable and quiet- unless the monkeys drop by- and its equipped with all the amenities that you can easily cook for yourself or have excellent meals prepared for you if you're too busy having fun.

If you are looking for the perfect Nicaraguan port of call, base yourself here. The service is great and Scott and Liz will either help you get the most out of your vacation or give you the tools and freedom to sort it out for yourself.

If only traveling everywhere was this easy and comfortable!

What could be better than falling asleep to crickets and rustling trees and waking up to chirping birds and howler monkeys? Scott and Liz's casita at Rancho Cecilia was the highlight to an already amazing Nicaraguan vacation. The private casita nestled amongst the trees was the perfect escape from the bustle of San Juan del Sur. Scott and Liz went above and beyond to make sure we had an unforgettable vacation by providing rides to and from Playa Maderas and San Juan del Sur, the use of surf boards, arranging a private yoga session on the beach, taking us frisbee golfing, and making us Christmas dinner!! Staying at the casita was the perfect way to have privacy while having people nearby in case we needed anything. Thank you Liz and Scott for allowing us to spend some time in such an incredible place. Those memories will not be soon forgotten.

Rancho Cecilia was a great experience overall. The house was very clean and kept up. Liz and Scott were great hosts, making sure anything and everything you wanted to do could be arranged. Maderas was fantastic for either surfing or just lounging on the beach. The town of San Juan del Sur was great for nightlife and food. Liz and Scott also give the option of coming up to their house for dinner, which never dissapointed. The food and company was great. Day trips were also arranged to go out and explore other areas of Nicaragua like Granada or the Volcanoes. Rides to and from the beach were made possible by Liz and Scott (we did the walk twice and it was a little hard and long), and rides into town were made possible by Liz and Scott. The taxis were good and pretty easy to find in town even when we were there when things were a little dead. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a very relaxing vacation with great weather and beaches. It was awesome to have a vacation where nothing was really planned until a couple hours before hand, and Liz and Scott were great making sure we felt at home and that our vacation was being done to the fullest.

Stay at Rancho Cecilia if:

you want access to multiple great surfing spots at beautiful beaches with perfect-temperature water, you want distance from "the scene" of San Juan del Sur, you want to enjoy living in a lush jungle setting, you want to co-exist with howler monkeys, exotic butterflys, rare species of birds and all other creatures of the jungle, you want to eat produce directly from the garden on the property, you want a financial bargain, you want the benefit of brilliant and experienced surf forecasting courtesy of owners Scott and Liz, you want the option of having Scott and Liz cook you amazing dinners, you want to marvel in the hospitality and thoughtfulness of the owners that can make anything you need happen, you want to chill in a hammock, you want to experience living "off the grid" (they generate all their own power), you want to have an understanding of the lives of many of the people living along the Chocolata (10 km dirt road separating San Juan del Sur and Playa Maderas - including locals and wacky expats), you want to say in a simple, clean, comfortable, well-stocked Nica casita.

First of all Scott and Liz are great company. They are good fun to hang around with and my girlfriend and I considered them (as well as dogs Mocha May, Indy, Lilly and the two cats) friends at the end of our stay. From the outset Scott and Liz made it clear that it was our vacation and they helped us to do what we wanted. They are both great surfers and know the area very well. Scott monitors tides and swell direction so that we always turned up at the right beach at just the right time. They have a good selection of boards to rent of all sizes, some of which they have had custom made. Liz's food is fantastic, there is an endless supply of cold beer from the fridge. Lifts to the beach and the town are provided when needed. They have good knowledge of local restaurants, and treated us to great oven fired pizza cooked by Italian jungle resident.
The little casita that we stayed in is away from the main house, clean and always has power. Plenty of hammock time, noisy monkeys, but beautiful and relaxing setting in the jungle. We had just one week in Nicaragua and had initiall planned to stay at Rancho Cecilia for just a few days before moving on. We did not leave until it was time to fly home! We miss the place and hope one day to return. Recommended without reservation.
