“Incredible Food!!! A MUST VISIT!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2014

We booked for the 5 course Lunch Taster Menu via email. On arrival on a cold wintery Sunday we soon realsied we were the only people there! We were met with a lovely warming welcome and the entire place was lovely and warm throughout. At no point were we rushed in any way what-so-ever. It cost £25 per head including a glass of house wine.

The food, service, atmosphere......the whole experience was exceptional and excellent value for money. We opted for an extra (cheese) course each and bought a few more drinks. Total bill £120 for 3 of us. At times the Chef came to the table and all the staff explained the dishes to us very well.

I can only say that this is a must visit for anyone who is serious about food and enjoys top quality food and service! We will definately be going back.....sooner rather than later I hope!

We also had the added luxury of being shown some of the rooms and I can only say that next time I return it may include an overnight stop too!!!! I hope so!!!!

“A special treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2013 via mobile

We took a couple of friends to Ynys Hir on the 4th of December as a lunch time treat and from the moment we arrived it was in deed a real treat. The venue was very welcoming and relaxing, the staff were attentive but not in your face and the food was fantastic. We had the special sample menu and we were not disappointed. We were made to feel very welcome and will certainly visit again as soon as possible, really good value for money.

“A Superb Venue and Very Special Menu!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

Having decided to meet with friends for a pre-Christmas celebration lunch, Ynys Hir Hall provided a superb venue and very special menu. This Welsh Country House, reputed to once be owned by Queen Victoria, stands in elegant grounds on the Dyfi estuary, having been gracefully restored to provide a high calibre and welcoming place to while away a pleasant lunch with friends or loved ones.
We chose the 'Special 5 course Lunch Menu', including a glass of very fine house wine. Each course was truly fine dining and quite unlike anything we had ever experienced before. Ingredients are sourced fresh and locally, where possible, by the excellent young Chef, Gareth. Each course is carefully constructed and balanced to excite and interest the diner. The Chef or Sous Chef introduced and served each course personally at the table ( - a luxury that may only have been possible due to the restaurant being very quiet on the day we visited). My husband commented that 'Its just like MasterChef - but without the annoying drums!' And, I have to add, without the occasional disaster, dahling! The meal was a veritable bargain at £25pp - but of course, the extras do add up. However, for a special treat, well worth it!
(Having read the previous review, I have to add - no dogs in sight - thank goodness - because that would really put me off and we would have chosen somewhere else. Owners - please take note!)

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013 via mobile

We stopped here for lunch this week - came across it by accident, though over the years have stayed in many Relais hotels here and abroad. What a treat was in store for us! Firstly we were met by a lovely receptionist who escorted us into the beautiful bar with a burning fire and a fabulous window stretching almost the entire length of one wall looking into a hidden part of the garden. Lunch itself was pure delight - Gareth Ward is such a talented chef and the service excellent. From start to finish it was a gastronomic delight and couldn't be faulted. We chatted with Gareth afterwards and he even arranged for a young member of staff to show us some of the rooms which were themselves exceptional. We look forward to returning!
