“Ski in ski out, sun & snow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013 via mobile

We booked through Crystal Ski and would say they have the best customer relations out of all the tour operators, nothing seemed too much trouble. Communication was excellent even before the holiday started by telephoning me from the resort to my mobile at home to ask if I had any questions about the resort or info I needed to know.
On arrival to the hotel Viking at about 15:00, we did have an issue with access to our room, it was still being cleaned, we finally unpacked at about 19:00.
The hotel food has been excellent so far, our room has also spectacular views, I think all of them do. The staff have been polite and tentative.
There is a mix of generations and groups of skiers here.
Recommend the Crystal ski guide of the resort, let's you know all the best parts of the slopes.
The slopes do need some more white stuff, especially the blue runs, they are a bit patchy, generally all red and black slopes are great and very well groomed

We have just returned from Hotel Le Viking for New Year, we are a family of 5 with 3 children aged 12,11 and 8. We had the most wonderful time, the hotel is in a fantastic position so no need to queue for the lifts in the morning. Food was really nice and plenty of choice, the staff were so lovely, kind and helpful. The two bartenders in the upstairs bar, "Seb and Nico" we're very attentive and really friendly guys, couldn't have asked for better staff, thanks guys! Crystal ski reps were very good and always approachable with a smile. We are returning at Easter for another week, can't wait!!

Just got back from Morzine, spent Christmas at the Viking.
I cannot recommend this place enough. We went as a family of 4 and used the room to full capacity (so did the 2 other families we travelled with) so it was a little tight once all the beds were open and storage wasn't quite enough for a family of 4. The bathrooms could do with a little updating but that is the only thing I can say about the hotel that isn't positive.
The location is by far the best we have stayed at for doorstep skiing!! The staff I cannot praise enough they went over and beyond the call of duty every day for us. We were in a large group and they made every effort to make us happy and welcome even to the point of baking a birthday cake of one of the 6 year olds in the group who's birthday was on Christmas Eve!!

This is most definitely well suited to families, we had soo much fun at the end of each day, when the lifts had shut down and all the skiers had gone home, sledging outside the hotel.

Ski school like everywhere is chaotic. You have to take the kids down to the bottom only to have them brought back up again so we agreed with ESF to meet outside the lift next o the hotel and they brought 3 bibs for our kids with them. This have us an extra 45 mins at breakfast which was nice.

Overall I would definitely go back again!!

Have just returned from a great Christmas week in Morzine. We booked the Viking primarily because of its location being at the top of the Plenney gondola and therefore offering true ski-in/ski-out facilities and beating the huge lift queues up from the village. For this it doesn't disappoint! However you are a little isolated once the sun sets. There is an evening cable car service to the village but this only runs past 20:30 three times a week which doesnt leave much time to soak up the Morzine apres ski. The hotel/Morzine bar owners should look at this and offer a more extensive service. I appreciate that the Viking Management would probably like to keep its clients up the montain and spend their money in the hotel but to do this they really need to offer more in the way of après ski than they do. A cold, halogen lit bar and a kids disco/karaoke is not enough unfortunately.

One of the other attractions was the spar facilities and pool. Again these were a little disappointing and rather univiting after a hard days skiing.

Now the good bits, the staff were all really friendly and very efficient whether they were dealing with large family groups or couples. The food was generally very good. Breakfasts and dinners were mainly buffet service and although agan the standard of both was good, you had to be careful with your timings as items would run out or go cold and not easily replaced. Good choice of local wines which are worth trying.

There is a ski hire shop within the hotel which is really useful, although only open in the morning and after 4pm.

The rooms are very comfortable and clean and we had a lovely view of the piste and views of Mont Chery. Beware though of the dawn chorus of piste bashers!

Overall, the Viking is a little basic and could improve on some of the facilities but if you are looking for a base to explore the fantastic Portes du Soleil I would certainly recommend it.

Stayed at the hotel over new year 2010 with two of my mates. Hotel is location on the piste so excellent for starting off in the morning as only need a few lifts with no queue's and your away and into a the Morzine and Les Gents ski area. Skiing is excellent and really enjoyed. Loved Morzine as a town, Loads of bars, restaurants, ski shops, traditional and local shops all over the place. Plenty to do and keep you entertained. The link over to Avoriaz and the Switz area's are all linked via the Super Morzine gondola in the middle of town, easy enough to get to with a small walk and the Portes du Soleil area is massive and great skiing.
As stated the hotel is up on the piste so need to get a lift up and down which is not a problem but access is not every night, if you do want to go down in to Morzine so you will have to check out the time table. Advantage of the hotel location is that you don't have to queue down in town to get up to the Morzine/Les Gents ski area as your already half way there, few chairs and your away
Hotel is very comfortable, clean and room were a decent size with a plasma TV for chilling out in. The bar was reasonably priced and there was plenty of pool tables, wii and also the outdoor pool and sauna to keep you occupied. The food for breakfast was awesome with a full English everyday and you could help yourself to as much as possible, so good for fuelling up for the day ahead. Dinner in the evening was OK but after a hard days ski you always want more choice and have to say was OK but not brilliant. Make sure you get stock up and crisp and junk for the room as if the food not enough at least you got a few goodies to get you through to breaky. Staff are all young, enjoying life but good fun and we had no complaints as always on hand to help and give you information.
Overall really enjoyed the hotel and ski area and would definitely go back.

we had a great skiing holiday at the Viking in Morzine, it was a good sized room, with nice bathroom and welcome bath, clean linen and nice and warm.

The room does not have hairdryer you have to get one from reception for 20 euro deposit, with you get back when you return it, if you have a travel one take it with you.

great to ski direct to the door, it is a bit of trek to get to the hotel in the first place, advise wearing snow boots to travel as you will need them to get to the hotel from the gondola.

only down point is that it is rather remote of an evening and you miss all the apres ski going on in the town, but it is nice and peaceful. Crystal reps aren't much use, but hotel staff are great.

well after reading all the reviews before we went we didnt want to go. when we arrived at bottom of gonderler lift the reps where very helpful and gave clear instructions. we collect out lugguage outside the hotel and went to check in - took bout hour due to loads of people. as its a cyrstal hotel you need to more speaking english staff at reception as the business with the drinking vouchers got very stressfull. as we was a party of 10 in 4 rooms and wasnt all family we wanted it separte as it goes onto a tab u dont get vouchers like the lunches. After all this we understood and and just planned to use it at dinner - but was gone by the second day.
the rooms were fanstanic not massive but ideal for a family (had 2x twin and 2x trible), loads of storage, everywhere clean just little bit of mould behind shower door, beds very comfy and we had the front view on 4th floor and very pretty at night. glad we could get english channels on the tv as was handy when we went to bed.
the boot room is very small, no locks, or lockers and not much space when loads of people r in there and u have to get stickers from reception to put on the skis. even though u put stickers and that equipment still gets nicked 2 people in out groups did. you need to get lockers for each room to save this hassle
the lunch vounchers are a very good idea and most days we had packed lunch which u had 16e to spend and that quite alot.
the dinners where amazing and nice just 2 nights we didnt like the main courses but they had a massive range of salad bar, soup, desserts and hot starters which u can help your self as much as u want fit in your stomach. maybe change the menu cus theres bout 4 nights with fish, fish and more fish :(
we you come of the slopes theres a DJ playing music but need to turn the volume down a bit its a hotel not a nightclub and especally at 4;30 - 5pm. also when we was there when the staff had time off there invited all their mates over and they was so loud and drinking so much, maybe you should sort that out to as there is kids at the hotel and not good seeing that. (dancing all over the tables and shouting)
the skiing was amazing and very hot got up 2 26oc one day but was slushy everyday so spoilt it a bit but still had the best time every one of best skiing trips.
the bar needs regular deliveries on alchole as the drinks we was drinking kept running out and the pool bar need to serve wine.

the only part that let the hotel down was going home - cus we had breakfast hour earlier there was much out and no hot food.
we had to put our luggage outside for the skido to put down by the gondalor but we fort they was gunna take our luggage down sepaterly like they did on way up but NO SO WE COULD OF TAKEN IT OUR SELFS FROM HOTEL TO LIFT RATHER THEN WAITING, time was getting on and a massive que to get down - we finally got on the lift and it was 9:20 - as was surrpose to be on coach by 9 so we was gettin worried - but lucky it was still there.
finally arrived at airport and got checked it becuase of a late departure from hotel we was late at the airport and didnt have time to sit and relax we had to run to the gate - moan over
crystal just need to sort out the times
overall exellant hotel and will go back again and also travell with cystal

Room Tip: if a family of 4 and dont have young kids but teenagers get 2 twin rooms
