Poor food? Seriously? This is the third time we've been to Le Grand Tetras in 3 years and the food is of the standard of a very good French restaurant. Locally sourced, perfectly cooked and excellently presented. The chef is a genius. If you're after pizza and chips and a cooked English breakfast this is not the place to be. Maybe the Travelodge in Chester is better suited? As for the room quality, I cannot vouch for all, but we've stayed in 3 different rooms and they've all been very clean and tidy with excellent showers - get it right and you get a room with a balcony over looking the village and mountains. The room we stayed in last was a family room, newly refurbished and was superb.
Cyril and Mariona are great hosts and both speak excellent English. They are always very helpful with local information and quick to sort out any issues. Free wifi. 20% off the hire at Berger (also recommended, with ski, board & boot overnight storage). 3 day board hire cost 50 Euros. Location is a 15 min walk to the Pleney lift (& Berger ski hire) or the bus stop to Avoriaz is right outside.
In summary - a fantastic French hotel that is well worth the visit. Can't believe it's a 2 star. We will be there again next year.
