“Second stay and yet again fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

This is our second stay at Les Lans, family of four, stayed in a mezzanine room which gave us plenty of room to chill.
Food was great very welcoming after a 22/02/2014 days skiing. Agree with earlier reviewer cheese course interesting!
Family run hotel, Aube and all very friendly and accommodating. Bus stops outside hotel frequently, goes both up to lifts (new cable car opening in April 2013, which will help) or down to Morzine for a stroll around the shops!!
Not a location for nightlife but if you want good skiing, good food and a good nights sleep this is the place for you.
Will be back again.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

This was my first snowboarding holiday abroad and it didn't disappoint. We arrived on the 16 March for a week and were in room 28 with a balcony which boasts a great view of the top of the hill in Avoriaz. I found the hotel to be very clean, quiet, well located and the staff were amazing. One thing this hotel is exceptional at is their customer focus. It's a family run hotel and they do everything and anything to ensure your stay is as comfortable and seemless as possible.

We were booked into snowboarding lessons each morning which commenced at 9am. Aube arranged for us to have an earlier breakfast so that we were not late. We had to walk smartly up the hill for the 8.30am gondola as the buses don't pass the hotel prior to 8.30am. The chair lift when you come off the gondola taking you to the plateau doesn't start until 8.45am so this is worth bearing in mind if you book snowboard lessons as you only just arrive in the nick of time as they don't always open the lift on schedule. Skiing lessons start at 9.15am therefore there is more leeway for getting to the meeting point on time.

The bus to Morzine stops right outside the hotel and it is only a 10-15 minute journey into the centre. There is a bus stop right beside the tourist information centre which is ideal for catching the bus back. I was a little confused on which bus stop to stand at on the first day but you soon suss it out.

In terms of the food if you are vegetarian it is advisable to e-mail the hotel in advance to inform them of this. That's what we did as we were concerned that we wouldn't be catered for. The first 3 evenings the food was excellent but on the fondue evening we were given stringy salad which we were meant to dip into cheese (that didn't really work), another night we were given a plate of potatoes and on the second last evening we had a bed of rice with 2 potatoes on top. Not an ideal combination. The breakfast was plentiful though with lots of choice too which was great so no problems there.

In previous reviews someone mentioned that there were no plug points next to mirrors for drying your hair but we found a secret socket next to the light bulbs on the bathroom mirror in a white plastic casing. We loved the family sized room and the mezzanine level too. The room was very spacious, comfortable and had a leather sofa with wall mounted tv. We really liked the quirky nature of the room and the 3/4 sized bath.

The boot room and ski room is locked at the end of each day too to keep all of your equipment secure. I was worried about this as my sister had recently been to Austria and had her ski boots stolen.

The bar was fantastic too. It was warm, cosy and had a log fire and kept my travelling companion supplied with endless cups of tea. As the bar was so comfortable we never felt the need to go anywhere else in the evening. Having free Wifi helped too and it ran well even if the bar was busy with people tapping away on their phones, tablets and laptops. Your drinks are added to your bill which you pay for on your departure so I put money aside each evening so that I knew I had enough to cover the bill.

The owners of this hotel really know how to look after their guests and it was a fantastic place to stay. I would recommend this hotel highly to anyone who is thinking of staying here.

Superb.

We stayed week commencing 16 March. For us as a family of 3 it was fantastic to have a mezzanine bedroom and everything about the hotel is friendly and real. The food was really excellent, although it is a set menu they are keen for you to let them know if you need something different, particularly for vegetarians this makes a realy difference.
All of the staff and the team are really friendly and want to make your stay a really good experience.
The dog Rocco, although now getting a little old, is a real character!

Room Tip: if you have children room 17 offers a 3 bed mezzanine which is great

A super hotel, cosy warm and welcoming. Perfect place to crash after a day on the slopes. Treat to have a bath and shower and even as a vegetarian , found the food to be great for a 3 star hotel. Definitely a good location with the 10 mins stroll to the new lift up to avoriaz - when it opens - not a problem. As others have said, bus stops at the door for morzine. Good deal thru Skitracer so a great winter holiday

We took advantage of the fantastic offer with Thomas Cook to stay in this Hotel as part of a half board package with flights, transfers, kit and ski passes.

We were slightly dubious with regard to the location of the hotel (when viewing on map) in comparison to Morzine and Avoriaz but we had nothing to worry about. There was a free bus service which collected and dropped off from directly outside the hotel which ran very regularly; it took about 10 minutes to get to morzine and dropped off in various key locations. The lift up to morzine we understand was good; we walked up to stretch the legs each morning as it only took 5 minutes.

It is a shame that the hotel is linked more with Avoriaz than Morzine in brochures as it is far easier to get to Morzine, and Morzine is a much nicer area! Avoriaz is just stacks of flats on a cliff edge to be honest - not worth going for apres ski but the access to an extensive ski area during the day is really good!

The hotel was very warm and friendly, ran by Aube who was lovely and extremely helpful. The food was fantastic; it was a set menu each evening but it was all so tasty and varied it didn't matter. The hotel bar was a nice cosy room with a log fire which we used for surfing the internet in the evenings and catching up with fellow residents about the days events. The rooms were basic but spacious and had everything we needed for a good nights sleep; by the time you return from a full day boarding/skiing, followed by happy hour (or 2!), you have time for a shower before dinner and by 9 is it bedtime!

Overall the ski area and hotel were amazing with the most extensive ski area we have ever experienced; we are boarders and thoroughly enjoyed being able to make the most of the entire area....we (like a lot of boarders) HATE button lifts so the resort is perfect as we avoided them all week but covered everything.

We would highly recommend this hotel and the area and we expect to visit again next year!

Room Tip: We were in room 27 which didn't have much of a view

Stayed here beginning march - Aube has this down to a fine art - if u are looking for value for money ski holiday with good access to a huge ski area with excellent food its hard to beat. It was our first ski holiday in France having been seduced by the charm of Austrian hotels & resorts for many years so we were delighted with our change this year. Yes its true, there were'nt many frills (I think maman liked it minimalist for cleaning!) Having heard that room size can be an issue in France we were pleased to have a good size room (room 12) & comfortable bed with sunny balcony with views over to the Pleney slope in Morzine and a much appreciated bath with shower attachment with lashings of hot water & good pressure. Also the lighting & mirror was very good in the bathroom for ladies make up. We liked the location at les prodains - pity the new gondola is still not running - but the old cable car was fine as we avoided the peak morning times or the chairlift across the road. Loved the contrast of different resorts & ski areas of Avoriaz to small & charming les Gets - we had a wonderful week skiing in the Portes du Soleil - special mention to Monica our hard working waitress & room cleaner - she always had a wee smile for us and of course the chef who produced well presented and very tasty French country cooking - we would love to return.

The Hotel Les Lans is a lovely hotel situated in Les Prodains, the free ski bus stops outside the hotel, so so you can go up to Avoiriaz (via a lift) or down to Morzine with ease.
The bedrooms are dated and need refurbishment, having said that they are adequate and we slept well. The dining room is fine with plenty of atmosphere and the food is very good for a 3 star hotel. The staff were excellent and could not do enough for you especially Aube! The free wi-fi in the hotel was very popular but is only available in the public rooms, so some people would be surfing in the restaurant.
We found the bar prices reasonable and it was always nice to have a nightcap in the bar after our meal with the roaring fire and talk about the days skiing!
Les Prodains is a small hamlet with a few bars and hotels but no supermarket but Morzine more than makes up for it, if you want a great restaurant try La Flamme by the Super Morzine Lift.
The ski area is immense with endless runs for all standards, some of the lift systems are old and tired and on some you are exposed to the weather as they have no covers. In Morzine there is a little train which is free and connects the Super Morzine lift with the Pleney lift.
We had a great ski holiday here and we will be back.

Room Tip: We had room 22 which had a great view down the valley.
