We stayed at The Ark with a group of friends, including 4 young children, in January 2013. We were only the 4th or 5th group to stay and so everything was brand spanking new although to be honest I'm sure it would look just as pristine any time you visited given the amount of care taken over it. It's funky but comfortable, and has stunning views over the valley and up to Avoriaz. The indoor hot tub is welcome relief after a long day on the slopes, and the bedrooms (which are all en-suite) were all lovely. The location is brilliant - right in the centre of town, opposite Dixie's, and a short walk to either the Super Morzine or Pleney lifts (although Jon will drop you off and pick you up between certain times of day).
The chalet hosts, Jon and Michelle, were fantastic. Really welcoming, friendly and helpful - it was like a home-from-home and felt more like staying with friends (ones who cooked, cleaned and generally looked after us!!) than in a hotel-type environment. They made a potentially stressful stay with young babies really easy - I'm sure they dreaded our booking but it never showed and they took fantastic care of us. The chalet was immaculate and although they had lots to do they always made time for a chat - nothing was too much trouble. Michelle is a great cook and you can tell she takes real pride in making sure everyone enjoys their meal. We also had a great day on the mountain with them, and they showed us some parts of the PDS which ended up being amongst our favourite runs.
The website says the chalet isn't recommended for young children but we didn't have any problems. Yes, there are a few areas where you'd need to take extra care - concrete stairs, fires, lots of lovely reclaimed wood (and potential splinters!) - but if you are prepared to take care of your kids and keep an eye on what they're doing, then you will be fine. They provided high chairs and cots, and the kids all enjoyed Michelle's cooking just as much as the adults did.
We used Morzine Kids nanny service for a couple of days, which was run by a lovely lady named Helen, who came to the chalet armed with plenty of toys so that we could have some time on the mountain all together. We'd highly recommend Helen, who used to be a paediatric nurse.
Overall we had a brilliant week and were really sad to leave. The snow was AMAZING! Morzine is a great resort for all abilities and The Ark is a really special chalet run by two lovely people. Anyone heading there is in for a real treat and we're very jealous!
