I read the previous reviews for Des Dromonts after a friend had booked it for our group and so expected the worst! On arrival the steps hadn't been cleared of snow and ice as noted in previous reveiws. The interior architecture messes with your head in many ways but makes a change however beware of erratic floor levels and step heights! The rooms are tired but more than adequate. (Although the pillows were old lumpy affairs!) We negotiated a discount for breakfast (15€ instead of 20€). Breakfast was like a John Cleese farce. One young man serving (Marvin) did his best to keep up to stocking milk, tea, coffee, eggs, clearing tables ,etc. but he never quite caught up. The scrambled eggs were cold everyday but our last when he received help from other staff after we had explained the situation to reception staff. Meanwhile,"Basil", the restaurant manager, was found relaxing propping up the bar drinking coffee. We had one meal in the restaurant (set meal € 29 for 3 courses) which was excellent food although not large portions which suited us.
The boot room is down a spiral staircase and the outer door has a basic lock which you have to get staff to unlock for you. I left my new skis across the road with my husband's hire skis as the owner there suggested that the Dromonts ski room was inadequate and not secure.
In conclusion. If you get a good deal this hotel is fine. Breakfast very expensive as were the drinks at the bar...good bars up the road with much more atmosphere and cheaper drinks. Go with a sense of humour and its fine.
