My family (with young kids), sister (with slightly older children) and parents had the great pleasure of staying in Chalet Le Prele over xmas 2010. I can't think of a better place to spend Christmas with family, or more welcoming hosts than Dave & Nicky along with Olly, Emma and the rest of the Mountain Mavericks team.
First - the chalet itself. It's huge & beautifully appointed. It has two excellent chefs in residence. It has a PlayStation, allowing you to be humiliated at rally driving games by your nephew at your leisure. It even has an outdoor hot tub, perfect for watching the world go by from with a cold beer (slightly surreal whilst it's snowing, but cool in both a metaphorical and literal sense.....)
Second - the location. The chalet is about 10 min drive from the middle of town out on the road to Avoriaz, but MM were kind enough to ferry us all into town each morning (and also to a restaurant on the rest evening) so we didn't miss being any closer to the slopes, and we acually loved the peace and quiet. It's great spending xmas day surrounded by snow....
This was our first time in Morzine - it's a good resort all round. 4 out of the 10 of us weren't skiing, and they enjoyed themselves as much as we did pottering around in town and going on walks. Oh, and there's a great hill opposite for sledging too, which was fun for all ages throughout the week!
Thirdly, and most importantly - the people. Dave & Nicky are both fantastic, not just their food (which was great all week - my boarding pants were distinctly tighter around the waist when I left....) but as the most friendly & welcoming hosts you could ask for. It can't be easy looking after a group ranging from 5 to 67 years old, but they really made it a special holiday for us. In particular, if you're partial to cake (Nicky) or cheese (Dave) you'll do very well here!
Similarly, Olly, Emma, Dom et al were extremely generous with their time from beginning to end, from ferrying us around each day, to ordering tables at restaurants, to coping with the travel chaos that meant we all turned up in Geneva in dribs and drabs.
Can't think of anything bad to say, trully a great week, and we'd love to do it again some time!
