“same as motel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

A real bad surprise. You can imagine you are in a third class level motel in USA. Same situation. Access to the room direclty from the parking space, with all the cars less then 1 meter from the window. No minibar, no international TV channels. The reception is in one building, the romms are in an other one. The restaurant is unsufficient!

Room Tip: The floor in the rooms upstairs ar not that cold as those downstairs.

We booked a room for 3 persons, and they gave us a small room but a little bed that was hidden underneath the big one. Once the second bed was put out, we couldnt move in the room ! The fees are expensive (around 90 euros/night), we had a bad location, in front of the street. The room was clean though, well furnished but really way too small !!! I would recommend searching for other hotel for a stay in Annecy.

Stayed in Campaniles many times in the past - nice formula. We were 5 people travellling to our ski hiliday and just needed a one night stay. Booked two rooms, they were great generally - clean, comfortable beds, warm, loads of hot water and tea and coffee facilities in the rooms. 1 of the TVs didn't work - but no matter. We did eat in the restaurant - and that is my only beef. The service was poor - not busy but they forgot one meal despite being reminded twice that it was missing, so one of us ate when the others had finished - and the food was average. Over all stay here - but go out to eat.... I think AT 250 EUROS For 5 for a bed and an evening meal (breakfast is extra) maybe Campanile are pricing them selves out of the market longer term

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the restaurant... and eat out !

Because we have used Hotels Campanile throughout France for over 30 years, we (wrongly) thought this would be OK, and in fact we had actually booked in for two nights, but because of the following reasons, we cancelled the second night and couldn't wait to get away.

On arrival, the Reception desk was unmanned and a small wait was necessary.
When I attempted to access the so-called "Free WiFi" in our room I encountered big problems. I went back to Reception and, when the man on the desk could be bothered to respond to me, (I had to wait some time) only speaking in French (!!) he told me that I had to sign up to something called "NOODO" which involved me having to carry my Laptop from the room to the Reception Desk. I did this, and reluctantly signed up to this ridiculous "Noodo", whatever that is.
Now this is most exceptional, because I have, as I said, used Campanile hotels for many years, and normally all one has to do in order to access the Internet is to fill in one's Name and Room Number, and "bingo" all connected to the Internet ... NOT SO AT THIS HOTEL !! As I had filled in all the lengthy details at the Reception Desk to get this "Noodo"I fell very aggrieved that once back in my Room, the Laptop lost the internet connection, and frankly, I just lost the will to live at this point, having travelled a very long three-hour journey to reach Annecy.

My husband and I eventually made our way to the main hotel for Dinner - and were VERY disappointed in the very, very limited range of items on the Buffet Menu ... normally at Campanile Hotels we have found a wonderful range of tasty and interesting items on the Buffet selection - NOT HERE !! And since there was very little choice on the A La Carte Menu, we settled for a Risotto - which when it arrived, looked a very skimpy portion, as though ONE portion had been divided into two portions.

So after breakfast the next day we cancelled our second nights' booking and moved on to a totally different hotel - and we are so glad we left. The remainder of our holiday was so much better - and we have no hesitation in stating that this particular Campanile Hotel is one of the worst experiences we have ever had.

I seriously urge you not to stay here.

Stayed there for one night only and glad that we did not spend more time there. The hotel is only good if you have a car - it is far from the lake and old town of Annecy. Pros: close to the main highway, the receiption was open late, when we arrived (not always the case with the cheap french hotels), free parking and wifi. Cons: the hotel is next to the road and you can easily hear cars passing by. Rooms are motel-type, so windows are facing gallery - no real privacy, especially if your room is close to the stairs. Room interior was tired, although acceptable. Breakfast was too expensive for this kind of hotel, so we did not tried it.
Overall, it seems to be too expensive for the simple road side motel and too far away from main attractions of Annecy to charge extra for that. But, if the price is right and you only plan to spend a night there - it may be not the worst choice, especially if you compare with the hotel prices in Geneva - only 40 minutes away.

What to expect from a Campanile - no more no less.
Location isn't the best to go downtown to the lake and it is difficult not to find but to access the hotel from teh highway exit, you must pay careful attention not to go too far.

During a roadtrip through France and staying in several cheaply designed highway or suburb hotels, we found this one of the better ones. Maybe also because it had a functioning airco. The layout is simple, but the room has what a sleeping place needs (don't see this as a resort or holiday hotel where you will spend all your days... this is just a sleepover hotel!). In what it is, it does it;s job good. It was clean when we were there (several years ago!, let's hope they did some maintenance the last years). All in all, on a roadtrip through France, this one is okay and Annecy is a nice town!
