A second visit to this new Art Museum was, yet again, an enjoyable experience during a hot summer stay in Cannes. The museum's modern design sits well along the road of lovely old buildings....as one climbs the stairs to start at the top floor there are fabulous views to be had. (There is a lift for those unable to tackle the stairs) Several rooms are small which can make it difficult to see: wait a few moments and let the crowd move on! Glass cabinets display letters and photographs: on this occasion from Renoir, Matisse and others to Bonnard. The larger rooms have benches for a welcome sit whilst studying paintings for longer. It's not a huge gallery but, at 7 euros, VFM compared to other exhibitions I've experienced. The paintings are over three floors with a projection room on the second. Some rooms have information cards in French and English: audio guides are available at extra charge. The ground floor houses ticket desk and well-stocked shop with postcards, books and gifts. The exhibition guide was available in English version too: at 26 euros not given-away but well-reproduced art works make it a worthwhile souvenir. Bonnard's work carries the light and life of the Riviera, and looking alongside other painters connected with the area such as Matisse, this gallery is a must for art lovers staying in the area.
