“Very cheap but not a pleasant place to stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2014

We found this while looking for a hotel near Aix-en-Provence TGV station so as to avoid a very early morning start. The hotel itself was easy enough to find but it had nothing much to offer except for a bed and I didn't look too closely at that!! The rooms are off an external walkway with windows that open directly onto it so no chance to leave them open. It was very warm that night so we opened it for a while to let the heat disperse but then had to close it to go to bed. Not a pleasant experience - extremely hot and sweaty. The loo and shower are in one of those pre-formed cubicles with the wash basin in an alcove next to it. Really nothing to commend it except the price - if you really can't afford anything more then at least it offers a bed and a shower. Otherwise look elsewhere...... The receptionist was friendly and pleasant though.

Room Tip: I don't think there are any good rooms!!

Cannot find anything positive there. Location is ok but surroundings of the hotel itself is hugly with strange people around. I will not book there anymore, this is for sure.
Suggest to look around for a better place to stay.

Room Tip: No good room there

This hotel has suprisingly low standard with small rooms and uncomfortable beds. Dont let the any pictures fool you.

There is no AC so I wouldnt recommend it in the summer time (nor any other time of the year as well).

We drove around an hour just find the hotel, and there were very few direction signs to follow.

No matter the price, you will be up for a disappointment.

We had booked three rooms for six persons for the Thursday night prior to the weekend of the All Blacks Rugby World Cup match vs Italy. The intention being as the hotel was close to the airport we would have a relaxing trip to the hotel close by the airport and then stay on at a more central hotel for the balance of our stay.

On arrival at the hotel the reception staff told our group no rooms were available. After extensive discussion in our poor French and their bad English it was established that one room was available but my girlfriend, our friend and I and would have to travel to Bonsai Hotel Martigues branch (a €60 cab fare from Bonsai Vitrolles) in order to get a room. This is what we ended up doing. The taxi fare cost more than the booking for the room.

My friends who managed to get a room were horrified at the filthy nature of the rooms, the lack of security and the apparent operation of a illegal business out of the room next door with large numbers of persons going to and from such room all night. Another group who arrived at the same time as us at the Bonsai Vitrolles had to stay in a room with all the windows smashed out.

Our room at Bonsai Martigues was basic, filthy and reeked of cigarettes.

I would never ever consider dealing the Bonsai hotel chain ever again and this experience set a very bad tone for the start of our holiday.

The hotel is very basic and so is the price, but close to the airport, 10 minutes maximum. The problem is to find the hotel. We drove around in the area at least one hour, until we finally found a man who took his own car and drove in front of us. We would not have been able to find it by ourselves. The map on the hotel webpage is not at all clear enough. Next time we will find another hotel. I am sure we will not find it again!

I won't be spending a night at this hotel again. As soon as I crawled into the bed, I started getting itchy bites from mites or bed bugs. Although the staff at reception were fairly helpful, I don't recommend this hotel. Bottom line: a not-so-clean hotel. You can find a better place for the money.
