We chose to eat ar Le Calumet because of its lovely location, situated on the beach at Pontaillac, Royan.
We opted for the 16.90 euro menu and our starter of two fish terrine arrived swiftly, however, no dressing, no salad, just 2 slices of supermarket terrine. Not impressive.
Our main course was moules marinieres and frites. What can I say? It was awful, tiny overcooked mussels with no flavour accompanied by burnt greasy frites. In retrospect I think that since we were early diners, (Midday), our mussels and chips were in fact left over from the previous evening and had been recooked to keep costs down, disgusting.
A visit to the toilets revealed filth, a terrible stench of sewage, and were not usable unless one has the stomach of an Ox.
My advice - enjoy the beach at Pontaillac and avoid this place like the plague.
