A delightfully serene Romanesque church in the sleepy town of Souillac. The elegiac simplicity of the interior is perfectly balanced by the classical Romanesque forms of the building's architecture. An unusual feature are the carved statues above the doorway which have been reversed so that they face into the church; this has helped to preserve them for the benefit of visitors although their medieval gestures introduce the only note of discord into an otherwise harmonious atmosphere. It is easy to park nearby in the municipal car park, which is only a 7 minute walk away. There is also a nice little cafe where you can get lunch or a coffee in a small square not far from the Abbey. This is a lovely serene place in a sleepy town. We did this trip on the same day as the Zoologique Calvignac and the Gardens of Eyrignac. It was a nice easy day out seeing all these in the one day. It was also relaxing and memorable.
