We've booked a weekend in Reims to enjoy the city and have an occasion to dine at the famous restaurant that was recommended by friends of ours. The expectation were high.
The moment we arrived in the restaurant instead of being greeted the first question was 'Do you have a reservation' we told the lady we do and gave her the name. Then we were rushed to the bar to take a drink before the dinner where we were given the menus to choose our dinner. After an hour we were invited to go to our table and we have chosen the degustation menu.
The disappointment started. The food was good but it was nothing exceptional. I found some of the meals quite overpowering and I couldn't finish my plates. I found some of the 1 star restaurants we have been much better.
Though the deserts and wine were amazing.
The selection of wine is vast and we have asked a recommendation for a glass of wine for the meals and though the selection was excellent we were unpleasantly surprised that we were offered one of the most expensive wines. From our experience so far once you ask for recommendation you are offered mid range price wine not the one on top of the list. At the end we ended up paying more that 200 euro for wine and if we were aware of this from the beginning we would have chosen a bottle ourselves.
So overall food was ok but nothing surprising, deserts were delicious so was the wine. Though for that price I would not recommend it.
