“SECOND VISIT UPDATE”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2014

Stopped here overnight again early March (please see previous review Sep 2013 for details).

This time I was given a room at the front of the hotel. Perfectly adequate, but not nearly as good as the rooms at the rear of the hotel looking over the gardens. The furniture in this room was somewhat tired and scuffed, but I will stress that the room was spotlessly clean and the bed very comfortable.
Disappointingly there was still no English speaking TV channel available (BBC News 24 is always useful). I was told that there was a new director at the hotel who was looking into a number of improvements, let's hope so!
Highlight was again dinner in the restaurant which was superb, top marks to the Chef d'Cuisine.
Staff were all very courteous and helpful.
Overall a very pleasant stay and good value for money via the special offer on the Best Western web site.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the gardens at the rear of the hotel, much better rooms and nice views.

This hotel we used as a stop over on our way back to the UK but we will be coming back for a longer stay as it is just great the staff are pleasant they smile and are willing to speak English if you want then to we checked in the room was large clean and well maintained with a very large bathroom. We decided to eat in the restaurant and we were not disappointed we had the fixed menu and it was great plenty of choice and the food was very well cooked and the service was good even though they were obviously training 2 new staff the older staff made sure that everything ran smoothly all in all this is a great hotel with the added bonus that it is 100 yards to the tram service into the centre of Tours so you get the advantage of a quiet suburban hotel but it is easy to access the pleasures of Tours without the car. The only bad point that I could find was that there was no light in the Free car park and trying to find something in my car in the dark was a little awkward but it did not put me off this great hotel.

Room Tip: Get the tram in to Tours

A comfortable stay with plenty of car parking. We ate in the restaurant one night- delicious. Free Internet only worked downstairs in the lobby.
Good base if you are driving around the Loire Valley. Reception was open late at night when we checked in- were helpful.

Check In: I'd booked on line via Best Western web site some weeks ago and pre-paid for best value. Everything was in order on arrival and reception had our room ready.

Location/Room: On the edge of the city, it's perhaps not for those seeking the French 'dream' of views from a chateau down the Loire valley. But if you are looking for a spotlessly clean, tidy hotel with recently refurbished rooms of a good size (for France), plenty of hot water and white towels then this could be for you. Complimentary Wi-Fi is throughout the hotel, but is not great strength in some locations. There were no English language TV channels, this is a big service omission with so many British people staying. Trams into the city centre are 30 seconds walk from the main entrance, although if you're only staying one night, I'd recommend the hotel restaurant. No air conditioning might be a problem in high summer, but in September it was fine.

Dinner: The hotel restaurant I found to be excellent value. It was 24 Euros (plus drinks) for a 3 course dinner of great quality which was beautifully presented and I couldn't find fault with it. Cotton table cover and napkins plus sparkling polished cutlery & glasses added to the professional look. On the down side, a little background music would have helped the atmosphere and, I was lucky in being early into the restaurant and found the pace of service OK.; however, some diners seemed to wait a long time to be served.

Breakfast: Perfectly satisfactory continental style breakfast.

Parking: Plenty of on site parking with no additional charge is a great amenity for those touring with a full car.

Gardens: Look fantastic and a huge bar terrace with outdoor pool would probably be really useful during the summer, but not of particular benefit to me in a cool early autumn!

Security: I mention a minor negative on security. All rooms have a small security safe, however, unusually they are not 'fixed' into the room. So, in the event of a thief entering the room, he'd have a convenient box with which to carry away your valuables!

Staff: Very attentive, courteous and helpful.

Overall: I liked it. It's good off season value and I''ll be looking to stay there again next time I'm passing through.

Room Tip: Park view rooms would be best.

We arrived on a Tuesday evening to find the hotel locked...... no one in sight. Eventually someone appeared at a side door and let us into reception. They had no trace of our booking through our reward points. Luckily there were rooms free as they had very few guests. The reason we booked this hotel was to use the pool and have a rest during our tour round the Loire valley. Pool was out of action. Very little point in staying as it was next to a shopping centre and in a built up area. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was ok - though overall poor for the price. Had we not been using reward points we would have been more disappointed. Checjed out after one night and moved to a much better place in the countryside.

Room Tip: The quieter rooms face the garden and the pool and are east facing.

Stay here for a night in the family room which was quite spacious. But the room go no air-con or fan. Lucky is spring so we don't feel hot with the window open. Our room toilet door got no lock (other room got lock) and the kettle is dirty.

Walking distance to Mc donal and a shopping mall.

We stayed one night as part of our six day tour of the Loire Valley. The hotel was just outside Tours itself but it was very easy to get into the centre by bus - which was cheap, quick and the bus stops adjacent to the hotel. When the tram system is operating it will be even easier to get into the centre as there is a tram stop just round the corner. Our room was well equipped, spacious, clean and warm! The breakfast was very good and the staff most helpful and spoke very good English. A place to stay!
