“Vastly improved”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

We stayed here a couple of years ago as a stopover on the way to Southwest France. The surroundings are somewhat run down, the rooms and food were merely OK, but the staff were very friendly and helpful, and had very serviceable English.
We repeated the trip this year and were very pleasantly surprised by the changes that have occurred since our last visit. The surrounding area is still rather down at heel, but the interior of the hotel has been renewed within the past few months and is bright cheerful and welcoming. The food is better and more varied, and the restaurant is more open.
The most important changes are in the bedrooms. Though not palatial in size (this is, after all, a fairly cheap place to stay) they are plenty big enough, and the bed is large and comfortable. The bathrooms are startlingly good, bright, clean and very well fitted out. The shower is probably the best I have found in a French hotel. A family room includes a very large wet room which delighted my grandchildren.
Parking is free and immediately behind the hotel.
And on top of all this the staff remain excellent.

I'm from Florida and Travel often. A global customer sent me to their Tours, France location for 2 nights. Hotel was $117 Euros a night food inlcluded. Customer's local contact recommended this hotel, but I found afterwards it's part of group of botique hotels all independently owned and he was earning points staying here. Overall I found the room fine, no bugs, very clean, smaller as is normal in Europe, but price was very low.

Building
I couldn't figure out how to work the AC (many homes/hotels don't have AC in France), but is was cool outside so I just opened the very large window and enjoyed the fresh air. Most US hotels the windows don't open. The hotel is part of a very large older 7 story building. Small apartments circle it on both sides, and shops occupy the first floors. The building is U shipped the hotel owning the bottom of the U. The middle of the U is a nice park where mothers bring children to play, and after school children play (basketball included). The rest of the building is all small apartments. A car-park is under that. The lobby has a large door leading to the Restaurant. The lobby has some small chair/couch to enjoy the Bar (also sells coffe). Food was excellent in my view. Hotel is in the middle of a middle/lower class neighborhood full of 7 story apartments and common houses, think suburbs. The hallway LED lights turn on when you step out of the elevator to save money. The elevator was in good condition and large enough for 3-4 people. There was one large European tour buses parked in front (older German visitors I think going to wineries I bet). I had WiFi in my room that was very good. I was able to use Skype for audio calls but not video calls home (not enough bandwidth). There is table near checkin with travel brochures/pamplets full of place to go visit.

Area
A couple of nice takeout pizza places are within walking distance (I loved Allo Pizza), 7 Eleven type places, small grocery store (lots of local wines), post office, I didn't try Atmosphere nearby it looked nice, in 2014 the Trolley will run adjacent to property around the city (it's been built here but the Trolley is still under construction in other parts of the city). I couldn't read enough French to try taking any of the many buses/downtown to see anything of interest. I had arrived downtown via SNCF and loved see the outdoor Cafes etc. I took a Taxi for $20 Euros to the hotel. I walked about 3 miles each night from the hotel through local neighborhoods, and was never questioned but once, asking if I "liked to smoke pot" once they found out I didn't speak French. I saw police cars several times making their rounds, they waved hello. The lobby staff spoke adequate English, I only asked simple questions, never directions, etc. I recommend if staying here you arrange a bicycle to be at the hotel before arriving, or expect to pay for Taxis, or learn enough French to take a bus.

Overall I would have looked for something closer to downtown Tours myself for a nightlife, bars, etc. This place was very quiet, and excellent for work-only trip.

Weird entrance - they must be waiting to refurb the foyer as you walk in to the dining room and there's a bod sat behind a desk just to your left...

However, the rooms - at about 55 eur per night - were fine. Not palatial but nicely fitted out, good shower, efficient d.glazing, heating and a/c. Comfy bed but less comfy pillows. We parked on the street but had a view over the car park complete with impromtu football match between resident children.

Despite being a little concerned on arrival to fine the reception under refurbishment and the car park being part of a housing estate, we needn't have worried. The staff were very welcoming and efficient and the room was brilliant having just been refurbished. Very comfortable and despite being on a main road, very quiet. A good meal in the evening too and the restaurant allowed us to take our small well behaved dog in too.

Picked this , just for a cheap stop over on our way down to Arcachon. Uninspiring suburb of Tours, but room was compact and bijoux! Having some refurb done, so might be nicer soon.
Secure parking at rear of hotel, but you have to ask reception where to find it.
Didn't have breakfast or dinner. Went round the corner for a n evening meal ata little restaurant called Atmosphere, which was very nice, particularly if you're NOT vegetarian.
60 euros was pretty god value I think

Just south of Tours this is a clean little hotel *but a tuch dated) that does what it ways on the tin. Decent size room with the usual amenities but with views onto either a road or blocks of flats. Useful restaurant with a limited menu but which served us a decent steak (for the money). Breakfast was over-priced at 8.5 euros and the room itself was equally so at 68 euros for two, but it seems to be par for the course. Not in the most salubrious part of town but the staff were friendly and kind and couldn't fault the service. Worth using an over-nighter but not for longer stays.

Room Tip: Not sure there are any best rooms
