The best view of the town and Castle is actually off of the main street on the right (across from the castle). There is a military jeep parked there and behind it you will see a sign on the building "Point de vue Himmelberg. Go up the steps and you find a little hiking path that 1/2 way up has a tree swing on it. Nothing like swinging from a tree while looking at a castle! At the top is a wonderful viewpoint of the town and the castle.
Larochette Castle is gorgeous. You can drive all the way to the top and park or take in the fresh air and hike up. It has been well restored with lots of fun passageways and view points that are perfect for imagining oneself (or your child's self) a King or Queen. Several of the rooms have paintings that show what would have been done in that room long ago. The town is very nice for walking with a small square housing a few restaurants. There is a great Jazz fair there in the Spring with several craft booths to keep the kids busy.
