“You will want to return to the peace and tranquility of Heath Cottage!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2011

We stayed here on the first night of our week exploring North Wales. John and Mary were very friendly and caring hosts. We too were greeted with tea and delicious home made lemon cake after being shown a delightful bedroom looking out over green fields. It included a very spacious en-suite with rustic wooden floor. In the evening we visited the castle remains at Montgomery and can recommend the pub meals at The Dragon Hotel there. Breakfast at Heath Cottage was the most varied we had ever had at a B&B including duck eggs, rhubarb and damson jams, all home made. The next day we had departed without our Russian guide book, but Mary tracked down our car at nearby Powis Castle (splendid gardens) and left a message telling us to collect our book at the castle ticket office. If you are staying in this area, stay at Heath Cottage!

Room Tip: The cottage is well away from the main road

We return again and again to Heath Cottage. We could not praise it highly enough - the house is charming, the rooms comfortable and well appointed.

As for Mary & John - they're great people and great hosts. They really go the extra mile to make sure our stay is always exactly right.

The breakfasts are legendary and really fill you up for the day. Fortunately the area has lots to offer and is in easy reach of plenty of attractions and activities.

Heartily recommended.

Upon arrival I was welcomed with Tea & Lemon Drizzle cake, what more could you want after working during the day. My room was nice, cozy and comfortable, just what I needed. I popped over the road for dinner, where I had a nice steak and the had to follow that with some crumble. When I got back, I slumped in front of the TV to watch the Rugby, only to doze of half way though, so gave in and had a great nights sleep.
In the morning I was greeted with a lovely breakfast selection, and also the choice of a Duck or Hen egg..... Oh and home made Jam & Marmalade.....
I felt very relaxed. Just what I needed. I felt like I was staying with friends, rather than at a B&B.
Thank you.

Near Powys castle, a very warm welcome (tea and lemon cake). Visit livestock (sheep, ducks). Some steps on the Offa's dyke Path. Pub nearby (The Railway Inn, Forden), a peaceful night in a spacious and comfortable room. Solid breakfast with duck eggs, fruit salad. Family photo. A very good memory.

A wonderful warm welcome at a beautiful cottage, superbly located for Offa's Dyke path. Friendly family setting, tea and delicious homemade cake in the garden on arrival, help with transport to start of day's walk, magnificent breakfast with much home made fayre, and a fantatstic packed lunch. And all at a very reasonable price...

A friend ang I were walking Offa's Dyke and had just had a very hard day. We were welcomed in the farm kitchen with a cup of tea and home made cake. Later we were provided with free transport to and from a local pub for a meal. The next morning I left behind my dog dazer (an essential piece of kit for long distance walks) and Mrs Payne caught up with us by car with the same forgotten item!
